Colossus

With a world record breaking 10 inversions, the installation of Colossus in 2002 marked Thorpe Park’s intention to become a theme park for thrill seekers. Confined within a compact 850m layout, riders experience a 98ft drop into a vertical loop, airtime hill, cobra roll, double corkscrew, four consecutive clockwise heartline rolls and a final anticlockwise heartline roll before arriving into the final brake run. Be sure to try the test seat before queuing, as the restraints can be unforgiving. The coaster is best experienced in the front row which provides a smoother, even more disorienting ride.

*There is also a maximum height restriction of 1.96m.

Quantum

Quantum is a ‘Magic Carpet’ type attraction that rotates guests in a levelled seating position around two pairs of rotating arms. Starting gradually by rotating backwards and forwards, the ride then picks up speed which creates that ‘stomach-in-the-mouth’ feeling as it reaches the highest point. With a 40 seat gondola, the queue moves quickly making it a perfect experience to fit in any time of the day.

Rush

Rush is a high-intensity thrill ride where a central A-frame supports two ride arms which are propelled back and forth using compressed air. Riders experience incredible views of the park below and towards the sky. The lack of over-the-shoulder restraints and intense airtime create a feeling of vulnerability for those brave enough to ride. Rush was the first S&S Screamin’ Swing to be installed outside of the USA, and the first of its size and capacity.

Opened: 2005 | Manufacturer: S&S | Height Restriction: 1.3m | Ride Photos? No

Vortex

Subjecting its riders to disorientating rotations up to 65ft high whilst swinging back and forth in a pendulum like motion, Vortex was the first park installation of the very successful KMG Afterburner model, which have travelled fairs all over the world.

Opened: 2001 | Manufacturer: KMG | Height Restriction: 1.4m | Ride Photos? No

Zodiac

Offering a thrilling ride with a low height restriction, Zodiac is popular with riders who aren’t yet able to enjoy some of the bigger attractions at the park. Utilising centrifugal force, the rotation of the ride pushes guests into the seat of their freely swinging gondola. The ride initially spins horizontally, then gradually up to 87°, inverting riders up-side-down.

Opened: 2001 | Manufacturer: Huss | Height Restriction: 0.9m* | Ride Photos? No
*Anyone between 0.9m and 1.4m must be accompanied by someone 16 yrs or over.
