Chessington World of Adventures Resort have today officially announced their new for 2021 attraction, Croc Drop.

Set to ‘drop’ in Spring 2021, with an exact opening date to be confirmed, brave explorers will plunge 25m into the giant jaws of Sobek, the ancient Egyptian Crocodile God and protector of the Nile, who has been possessed by evil spirits and transformed into a cruel deity. With the once fertile Nile laying stagnant, riders must take part in a ceremony to banish the evil spirits, plunging into the crocodile’s soul and releasing the waters back into the Nile.

Tim Harrison-Jones, Divisional Director at Chessington World of Adventures Resort, said:

“We’re thrilled to announce our NEW ride, Croc Drop – it’s going to be a great addition to our Theme Park, which along with our Zoo and Resort Hotels are temporarily closed until it’s appropriate to reopen, as we adhere to Government guidance in response to COVID-19.

“The one-of-a-kind drop tower has been over two years in the making and is nearing final construction in our Land, Forbidden Kingdom – just at the sight of it, let alone the thrilling ride itself, guests’ jaws will drop!”

Incorporating a Drop’N Twist ride system manufactured by SBF Visa Group, the 16-seat gondola will also rotate after being raised to its summit, as footage from a recent ITV News report showed. The Resort have confirmed that the attraction will have a minimum height requirement of 1.2m, with those between 1.2m and 1.3m tall needing to be accompanied by an adult over the age of 16 in order to ride.

Plans for the attraction were first submitted in September 2019, which confirmed the removal of long-standing attraction Rameses Revenge to make way for the new addition. As construction progressed over the course of 2020, trademarks for both the ride’s name and logo emerged, further fuelling speculation. A notable element from the plans that does not appear to feature in the final attraction are the waterfalls on entrance-side of the building structure. However, with ‘water’ mentioned in the description released by the Resort, it could be that it is now due to be included elsewhere in the attraction.
