New for 2009 at Legoland Windsor is Laser Raiders, the first Sally interactive dark ride in the UK.
The attraction is inspired by the Lego Adventurers Egypt theme of Lego sets. The story consists of Pippin Reed being kidnapped by Sam Sinister, with guests joining Johnny Thunder to save Pippin and defeat Sam. Riders board their vehicle and pass through many scenes including a spider’s lair, dancing hieroglyphics, a professor’s lab, a mummy, a gauntlet and a treasure room. Guests encounter various animatronics, and earn points for shooting specific targets to achieve the highest score. Aimed at a younger audience than the likes of Tomb Blaster, Laser Raiders is proving a popular addition to the park.
Other improvements around the park this year include the addition of theming to Longboat Invader, last year’s new attraction. The ride initially opened sparsely decorated. Lego Racers has reopened, and Spinning Spider has received a new Lego spider centrepiece, replacing the previous one.
Plans have recently been submitted for a new hotel on the current site of the Jungle Coaster, which is expected to be removed or relocated elsewhere within the park, due to continuous noise complaints from nearby residents.
