LEGOLAND Windsor Resort have submitted an application for a Lawful Development Certificate (LDC) for a new ‘Coaster Ride’ on the former site of Viking River Splash.

Codenamed Project Dojo, the plans detail a layout which is a clone of Masters of Spinjitzu, a Mack Rides Family Spinning Coaster that opened at LEGOLAND Korea in 2025, with a second installation due to open at LEGOLAND Japan in 2027. The documents note that the proposed coaster will have a maximum height of 19.7m from ground level. Given the ride’s codename and close proximity to LEGOLAND Windsor’s existing LEGO NINJAGO World, it seems a safe bet that Project Dojo will be a third installation of the same ride. The centrepiece of the existing ride at LEGOLAND Korea is a giant, fire-breathing LEGO dragon, with riders tasked with growing the power of the Ninja elements to create Dragon Energy and save the world!

The application for Project Dojo follows the submission of a prior notification application in February for the planned demolition of Viking River Splash, LEGOLAND Windsor’s former river rapids ride which closed in September 2023 and had since remained SBNO. Following approval of this in March, demolition work has already been progressing at pace, with the Resort targeting completion of this by November 2026.

The plans submitted for Project Dojo indicate that the coaster’s layout will occupy only around a third of the total footprint of Viking River Splash, specifically the hill above Spinning Spider utilised by the first portion of the rapids’ layout. The LDC relates only to the proposed installation of plant and machinery in the form of a coaster ride, along with ancillary elements including operators’ cabin, loading platform and perimeter fencing, which is considered to be Permitted Development.

It is noted that a separate full planning application will follow in due course for other elements of the scheme which do not constitute Permitted Development – an approach which has been taken by LEGOLAND Windsor previously, most recently with Minifigure Speedway. Therefore, it seems likely that this future application will set out how the rest of space will be utilised, along with the proposed associated buildings and structures. On the assumption that the ride will form part of LEGO NINJAGO World, it seems likely that some sort of access will need to be created from the area’s existing plaza, up to the coaster’s loading platform.

While a timeline is not given in this latest application for when Project Dojo will open, it is expected that, following completion of demolition of Viking River Splash in late 2026, construction of the proposed new coaster will taken place over 2027, to enable the ride to open in 2028.
