Thorpe Park Resort and Chessington World of Adventures Resort have each received two nominations for the ScareCON SCAR awards, the annual awards which recognise and champion all aspects of the scare industry – from Halloween events to year-round scare attractions.

In the nominations for the 13th annual awards, which were revealed last night by ScareCON, the Resorts picked up nominations in the following categories:

  • Best set and design – Creak Freak Massacre – Thorpe Park Resort
  • Best theme park event – Fright Nights – Thorpe Park Resort
  • Best theme park event – Howl ‘o’ ween – Chessington World of Adventures Resort
  • Best Halloween maze – Creepy Caves After Dark – Chessington World of Adventures Resort

These latest nominations follow on from successes in previous years which have seen The Walking Dead: Living Nightmare win ‘Best Set, Costume and Make Up’  and Creepy Caves unearthed win ‘Best original concept’ at the 2018 awards, The Cabin in the Woods win ‘Best Halloween Scare Attraction’ in 2014, three nominations in both 2015 and 2016, and two nominations in 2017.

Alton Towers Resort also feature in this year’s nominations, picking up six nominations in five categories.

Now in its thirteenth year, the SCAR awards are held annually by ScareCON in association with ScareTOUR (a site dedicated to providing independent reviews of scare attractions all over the world). This year’s ScareCON was due to be held at Thorpe Park Resort in May, however, due to the ongoing situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event has unfortunately had to be postponed until 2021. Instead, the 2020 SCAR Award winners will be announced in a special online video on Tuesday 5th May.
