Legoland Windsor Resort have encountered a fresh set-back in their plans to install a new Haunted House attraction at the resort.

Following a consultation event held at the start of June, the Resort submitted a revised application for the proposed new attraction which saw a reduction in the main façade by one metre and included a new traffic assessment designed to address the concerns raised by the local council when they refused the original application in August last year. However, based on a recommendation from the planning officer, the council have issued a decision of ‘Decline to Determine’ meaning that the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council will not put the application forward for consideration at the planning committee.

In their report, the planning officer states that the reasons for their recommendation to ‘Decline to Determine’ is due to the new application being too similar to the one previously submitted (the only differences being the one metre reduction in height and the addition of the traffic assessment), and the fact that the original application is on an appeals process which is yet to be decided by the secretary of state.

Whether the Haunted House attraction now gets the go ahead depends on the outcome of the appeal on the original application which is due to be heard on the 6th October this year. If successful the new attraction will be situated to the south east of the ‘Boating School’ and ‘Driving School’. Described in plans as a ‘Haunted House Ride Experience’ visitors will enter the new attraction through a themed queue line featuring a graveyard and spider’s web, before entering from the front entrance which will replicate a traditional haunted house and be based on the current Lego ‘Monster Fighters’ brand. Once inside, guests will experience a 10 metre drop tower ride experience, similar to that currently used at Alton Towers Resort’s Nemesis: Sub Terra. In order to accommodate the new attraction a range of landscaping works will be carried out including the widening of existing footpaths.
