Storm Chaser is a Mack Rides spinning roller coaster that opened in 2021 as the standout attraction in Tornado Springs at Paultons Park. Reaching a height of 64 feet and a top speed of 37 mph, it strikes the perfect balance of thrills and accessibility making it an ideal ride for the whole family to enjoy together.

Operator Booth

Take a closer look at the Mack Rides operator console which manages the main operation of Storm Chaser. The screen provides the operator with essential information, including dispatch times, dispatches per hour, temperature, wind speed, and the free running times of the trains, all displayed clearly on the left-hand side. Additionally, when a train is parked in the station, the console shows which restraints are properly secured and clear for dispatch.

Transfer Lift

Unlike most roller coasters, Storm Chaser features a stacked maintenance shed due to limited space in the area. This means the maintenance bay is located directly beneath the station platform. To transfer a train onto or off the circuit, a lift track is raised into the station, aligning with the main track section, before lowering back down to the maintenance area. Due to this design, Storm Chaser can only store one of its two trains in the maintenance bay at any given time.

Train

Take a closer look at the trains used on Storm Chaser at Paultons Park. The ride operates two trains, each consisting of four spinning cars, with each car seating four riders making a total capacity of 16 riders per train. To enable the cars to spin freely, these trains include additional mechanical components not typically found on conventional roller coaster trains.

Maintenance Shed

Within the Storm Chaser maintenance area, there are numerous tools, spare parts, and specialised machinery used for ongoing upkeep and routine servicing of the ride. This includes regular shipments from Mack Rides, spare hardware for the ride’s transfer lift, and additional replacement wheels to ensure smooth operation throughout the season.
