Minecraft World, the world’s first fully immersive Minecraft theme park land, will open at Chessington World of Adventures in 2027! The land will feature new Minecraft-themed attractions, including a thrilling world first coaster, interactive adventures, epic block built playscapes, and themed retail and dining.

14th June 2026

A notable amount of progress has been made in the six weeks since our last update. On the construction site itself, the steel framework for around half of the main ride building for the area’s headline coaster has been erected, enclosing the elevated brake run, station and first dark ride section of this Intamin Multi Dimension Coaster. At the front of the building, cladding and insulation has begun to be added (with more materials staged on the site), with theming expected to be applied to this in the finished project. The concrete forms for the lifts that will provide step-free access up to and down from ride platform level are also visible. There has not been any further progress of note on the installing layout itself, with the same supports as in the previous update still staged in the compound storage area on the car park. However, there are two new sections of track which weren’t seen previously.

3rd May 2026

Track has now been added for the elevated brake run, station and first dark ride section of this Intamin Multi Dimension Coaster. The track includes many motors for the drive tyres which are yet to be attached. At ground level, the launch track and supports have been installed where the train will shoot out the building into a banked curve around a theming feature, before heading back inside. Further supports have been delivered to the compound storage area on the car park, including a large support for the reverse spike element.

25th April 2026

The support structure for what is expected to be the station and first dark ride section of the ride is now fully in place. This structure has expanded to include what is most likely the final brake run for the attraction with a piece of track in place above. Behind the suspected dark ride scene is another support section which will link up to the current section via a switch track. Two smaller sections of track have gone into place where the maintenance area is expected to be located.

23th April 2026

It’s green! The first supports for the outdoor section of the Minecraft themed roller coaster have arrived at Chessington. On the site itself, the support structure has grown for what looks to be a dark ride scene on the same level as where the station will be. It is interesting to see the smaller supports then holding up a larger vertical support which will follow the direction of the track. Work has also taken place on the launch out of the building where the track and supports are now already in place. These track pieces have brackets on them where the LSM fins are likely to be attached at a later date.

18th April 2026

Minecraft World has gone vertical as the first Intamin supports for the new multi dimension coaster have gone into place following a delivery earlier in the week. Elsewhere on the site, work has continued at a steady pace on the foundations and concrete slab for the new building. With more deliveries expected in the coming weeks, it will not be long until more of this coaster is installed on site.

30th March 2026

The hoarding which surrounds the construction site has been updated to feature new graphics which tease Minecraft World coming in 2027. On the site itself, work has continued on the concrete slab which will form part of the foundations for the main roller coaster show building, gift shop and restaurant. There are large screws which are poking out of the concrete slab, this is what will then connect the roller coaster support structure to the foundations of the building.

21st March 2026 – Minecraft World Announcement

The rumours were finally confirmed, with the announcement that Minecraft World would open at Chessington World of Adventures in 2027! A range of concept art was released as part of the announcement, showing off aspects of the area such as its entrance portal, a floating mountain theming feature, and the themed retail and dining experiences. There were also several images of the area’s headline attraction, an Intamin Multi Dimension Coaster, with the concept art suggesting that guests could expect to encounter mobs that include Zombies, Creepers and Ghasts, and venture into the Nether!

21st February 2026

Work over in the former Wild Asia has ramped up massively. The main focus within the area at the moment is the infrastructure for the large show building which will house the majority of the new roller coaster. Concrete for the foundations of the building have begun to get poured and is being reenforced with steel rebar. There are a lot of tubes which are sticking out of the ground which will be for power and utility cables for the new building.

4th October 2025

Lots of rubble has been moved around the former Wild Asia site with a lot of it currently being in the process of being grinded down ready for future construction. Subsequently, a large pile of rubble has appeared at one end of the site. The ground on the near side of the construction site seems to have been all dug down and flattened slightly ahead of any foundation work beginning on the large show building that will house a shop, restaurant, toilets, roller coaster and queue line.

17th August 2025

Wild Asia has been fully flattened with the site ready for construction of the new developments to commence. Outside the park, directly adjacent to the site, a storage area has been set up for construction materials. Currently, the dismantled track and seats from Kobra sit within this area.

6th July 2025

Wild Asia has nearly been demolished, with the entrance portal to the former area one of the final sections remaining and is expected to be removed very soon. Temporary barriers have been added around the construction site in preparation for permanent walls to be installed.

15th May 2025

Wild Asia was closed off and teaser signage added to fences at both entrances to the area, along with acknowledgement on the park map about something coming in 2027. Demolition started, with the removal of Kobra, Monkey Swinger, and foliage was cut back ready for the full clearance of the site.

November 2024 – Plans Submitted

In November 2024, Chessington submitted the full planning application for Project Refresh & Renew. The development has been designed to cater for families with children aged 6-12, with a range of experiences from rides that the family can enjoy together, to interactive, independent play and areas for decompression.

November 2024 – Minecraft Partnership

Merlin Entertainments announced a global strategic partnership with Mojang Studios to bring Minecraft to life through immersive and interactive entertainment attractions in fixed locations around the globe. Referred to as “Adventures Made Real”, a phrase trademarked by Merlin earlier this month, the partnership will see an initial investment of over £85 million ($110 million) in Minecraft-themed real-life experiences in the first two attractions, which will launch in the US and the UK between 2026 and 2027. The creative collaboration and development of these cross-reality experiences between Merlin Magic Making and Mojang Studios teams will ensure authenticity in all features. These are said to include the development of first-of-its-kind concepts for Minecraft-themed guest accommodation, retail, and food & beverage, alongside exciting experiences – including a Minecraft-themed ride – at Merlin locations in these two countries. Merlin will then expand these experiences to other destinations globally.

September 2024 – Public Consultation

The proposal is for a new themed land featuring unique immersive experiences, play areas and sensory environments for the whole family to enjoy. The centre-piece will be a new rollercoaster with indoor and outdoor elements. Other attractions will include a re-themed and re-positioned Kobra (a Zamperla Disk’O Coaster), new indoor ride and new outdoor themed play area. The land will also incorporate interactive retail and food & beverage offerings. The plans show the main area entrance portal being located in broadly the same location as Wild Asia’s, with the secondary portal between the area and Land of the Tiger also due to be retained – Kobra is proposed to be repositioned such that its hill will be above the area’s secondary entrance/exit.
