Cobra is a Gerstlauer Bobsled roller coaster that opened at Paultons Park in 2006. It features a height of 54 feet, a top speed of 31 mph, and a track length of 1,476 feet. The ride is a near clone of Thor’s Hammer at Djurs Sommerland, with the key difference being that Cobra omits one of the two final helixes featured on the original layout.

Operator Booth

Cobra features a Gerstlauer operating console typical of the early 2000s. The main screen displays key ride information, including block sections, sensor status, and various ride components. A CCTV setup on the desk provides live coverage of the entire attraction, including the queue line and maintenance area. In addition to the main screen, there’s a separate control panel and a tablet used to monitor throughput, downtime, and queue times. The ride also includes a secondary operator console located on the platform, allowing ride hosts to assist with dispatch operations when needed.

Station

Beneath Cobra’s station is an access area that allows staff to inspect the wheels and underside of the trains. This space also houses several electrical components used when a vehicle is parked in the station, supporting the safe operation and monitoring of the ride. Cobra features a movable piece of track located just before the covered station block sections. This transfer track allows trains to be moved between the maintenance area and the main circuit. To operate the transfer system, an engineering key must be inserted into the transfer controller, ensuring that only authorised personnel can access and operate this function.

Lift Hill

Take a look at some unique views from beneath Cobra’s lift hill. The ride features two friction drive tires that help move the train from the onload station to the start of the chain lift. From this vantage point, you can also see various electrical components and sensors that are integral to the operation and safety monitoring of the lift system.

Ride Area

Take a look inside of the ride area for Cobra. This area features the final helix into the brake run as well as the near miss head chopper in the form of a shed. It is amazing to get a close up look at this area prior to the theming changes as the ride transforms into Raven for the 2026 season.

Maintenance Shed

Inside Cobra’s maintenance area, ride engineers have access to a spacious area beneath the track, allowing for thorough inspection of the train’s underside. The shed also houses various tools, spare parts, and components essential for the ongoing upkeep and safe operation of the ride.
