Ever wanted to know how scare mazes are created, or how they look with the lights on? Direct from the Attraction Source archives, these photos show some of Thorpe Park’s past and present Fright Night attractions in every terrifying detail.

3D Freakshow – 2002

The 3D Freakshow debuted alongside The Freezer as part of the original ‘Fright Nites’ event line-up in 2002, and featured twisted scenes brought to life with UV paint and 3D glasses.  The attraction closed in 2006, with the space since repurposed into other Fright Nights mazes such as The Cabin in the Woods and The Walking Dead: Living Nightmare.

SAW Alive – 2010

In 2010, Thorpe Park Resort transformed the Thorpe Belle, which had been used as a corporate events venue, into SAW Alive, a live action scare maze which initially operated all season. Featuring some of the most recognisable scenes from the popular Saw horror film series, including the bathroom, freezer, and pendulum trap, SAW Alive placed guests in their very own version of the film franchise. Alongside live actors, the attraction utilised a range of special effects and immersive theming.

From the 2012 season, the maze only opened during the Resort’s annual Fright Nights event. It then closed permanently to guests at the end of the 2018 season. We had the opportunity to take a closer look behind the scenes of SAW Alive at an Attraction Source Event, providing the perfect opportunity to observe some of the fantastic theming and take a peek at areas not normally seen by the public.

Stitches – 2024

This sinister scare maze originally opened in 2023 and challenged guests who entered to outwit the clutches of the Toymaker’s wicked creations, or end up becoming a permanent resident of her collection. Stitches instantly became a hit with its unique theme, very detailed sets and consistently good scares.

Dead Beat – 2024

It’s two minutes to midnight, and the clock is ticking. Will you surrender willingly or dance the night away, embracing what may well be your final night on earth? But beware this is no ordinary venue—here, the music doesn’t soothe the soul; it devours it. Dead Beat was another unique new theme for Thorpe Park, and a very detailed one at that with some intricate, amusing and captivating features.
