Alton Towers should never get rid of any old classic rides like corkscrew. These new "world first" rides are to be honest poor, air is a prime example i was very dissapointed when i first had a go, and I would rather ride corkscrew and get bashed about than go on air and oblivion, well oblivion is over in seconds what is the point

Air= wimp coaster :)

The problem with ride heritage is deciding where is the cut off point.

Yes it is important to keep older rides, so that people are aware of how parks and the industry have developed, but every ride has to be taken on it's own merits.

I don't think the Corkscrew is worth being kept as heritage... yet. For a start there are currently 8 identical coasters in the world, and there are 2 of them still operating in the UK. (no doubt if the Corkscrew closed it would be sold on anyway and would continue to operate). The one at AT is probably one of the worst maintained of the genre, a lot of trip reports so far this season have commented on how sad it is looking.

Only if it was one of the last of it's kind (or t least the last of it's kind in the UK/Europe) would the ride become worth keeping for heritage.

I also don't think Oblivion or air could ever class as being kept for heritage.... although serious discussions about their removal won't come up for a very long time yet. (shall we all put a date in our diary for 2020?)

The only ride at AT at the moment which is really worth keeping for heritage sake is Nemesis. There are several others which could become worthy of being kept for heritage sake, but quite a few are not major rides. The 3D Cinema for example... how many of those old school domed cinemas can you think of in this country? They have all but disappeared from parks, whereas as little as 10 years ago, most parks had one. (either 3D, Cine2000, Cine180 or Cine360).
Edwardo..... move me!

OK yes they are really good coasters air & oblivion but they are more of an experiance than a thrill, i don't like queing up for oblivion for hours the the ride lasts all of a few seconds, nemisis is the best coaster but blackhole and corkscrew still provide the goods :D plus dynamo (astro dancer) was the bomb why get rid of it? :|

I think they should keep the corkscrew, but i think it needs a bit of a revamp, i dont know if anyone else has noticed but dont you think that the corkscrew has got alot slower.

so if they improved the corkscrew everyone would be happy.

No I don't think the corkscrew has got any slower at all, I don't think it's any faster than AIR, to be honest I'd say that AIR is slower. in parts. You've just had bigger and better and are now comapring.
I was surprised when I saw UG LAND. Shocked by it to be honest. I was gutted when Henry left but made up that they'd made way for newer things.... COCA COLA. Everything is so commercialised at Alton Towers just lately, I can't blame them, the money from the marketing is giving us excellent rides like AIR and SPINBALL WHIZZER. With regards to the Log Flume??? Get rid of it and you'll kill a major part of EVERY theme park in the world. You HAVE to have a log flume, a "rapids ride" As well as a damn good coaster both new and old school. I would be truly gutted if they binned the Corkscrew, same if they binned AIR. I've always loved the way that Alton towers turns a theme park into it's namesake. If they mean to pretend you're riding an Alien then you will, if they want you to feel like you're riding as a pinball they will. If you want to feel like you're on a good coaster, no matter what the size, shape or not - they will. Alton Towers would lose one of it's greatest heritages if they binned Corkscrew, they may as well bin the gardens as well if they were to do that. BOTH of them are Milestones in what's become one of the greatest theme parks in britain and Europe.

There should be a place in the UK that all old rides should be sent to once they have excided their life expectancy of the theme park they are in.
