A dark ride will be headed to Orlando, however SeaWorld's CEO Joel Manby has said that there are major investments planned for Orlando in 2016, 2018 and 2020. So the dark ride will probably be going there in 2018, but we'll see.Owen wrote:I had heard somewhere that there were two dark rides supposedly heading to SeaWorld San Diego and SeaWorld Orlando in 2017, although the Orlando one would be consideribly smaller due to Mako being added in 2016.
As for San Diego, I'm just wondering where the dark ride would be. The park haven't submitted for planning permission (as far as I know) so does that mean they would have to use an existing building? I'm not certain how the planning process works in California.
If they did have to use an existing building the animal connections center near the front of the park is of substantial size and the animals could easily be relocated to other areas of the park.

SeaWorld San Diego has unveiled a multimillion dollar new dark ride, Ocean Explorer. The attraction will encompass several new animal habitats along with the new ride which takes guests on a journey through the seven seas, inspiring them to take action and protect animals in the wild. The attraction is due to open around May 2017!
Also, the new area of the park will feature several new flat rides including a wave swinger themed to a giant octopus! The new realm will open on the current site of the animal connections center, like I predicted a few posts ago
Also, could someone change the topic name to Ocean Explorer please?

I am saddened to report the death of a beloved member of the SeaWorld San Diego family, Bubbles the Pilot Whale. Bubbles was a female short-finned Pilot Whale in her 50s, the oldest Pilot Whale in human care anywhere in the world. She has entertained and inspired over 100 million guests over many decades and will be dearly missed by her trainers, animal care specialists, fans and of course the two Pilot Whales that she leaves behind in San Diego.
RIP Bubbles

On June 16th 2016, SeaWorld San Diego rescued a long beak common dolphin that had become stranded on a California beach. The locals (thinking the dolphin was female) named the stranded dolphin "Rosey". When the dolphin was transported to SeaWorld San Diego's rescue facility it was discovered that the dolphin was actually male, but the rescue staff decided to keep the name anyway
Rosey is currently in a guarded & critical condition, but it is hoped that he might pull through. As a very young animal, it is unclear whether Rosey will be suitable for release back into the wild, but this is a decision that will be made by the federal government at a later date should Rosey pull through.
Without SeaWorld, this beautiful animal would not be here today, that's one of the things I love the most about this amazing company.
There is some more detail in the following article:

It is with great sadness that I report the death of Rosie, the rescued long beak common dolphin:

This will be an upsetting time for SeaWorld San Diego's animal rescue team; such is often the nature of these operations unfortunately.

SeaWorld San Diego have been treating Kasatka, their matriach Killer Whale, for a bacterial respiratory infection for years. However over the past couple of months, her immune system's ability to tackle the condition has decreased. Learn more here:
https://seaworldcares.com/en/2016/08/Up ... t-Kasatka/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Kasatka continues to be closely monitored and assists in her own healthcare by providing voluntary blood samples and more. This condition can be found in wild Killer Whales, as well as Killer Whales under human care. Kasatka, along with the other 10 Killer Whales at SeaWorld San Diego will continue to reciece world class care.
In other news, some new concept art and plans have been discovered for the brand new Ocean Explorer realm due to open at SeaWorld San Diego in late spring 2017!

The length of the submarine ride is my only concern, but everything else looks great!

I'm hearing some whispers that Szenja, a Polar Bear at SeaWorld San Diego may have given birth recently or may be about to give birth. I can't guarantee anything but this is backed up by the Polar Bear habitat currently being listed as closed until further notice.

Taken from Screamscape:
One of our readers who lives very close to SeaWorld San Diego received an interesting item in the mail today. It was a public notice from the City of San Diego regarding a new building application files by SeaWorld San Diego to "remove existing shade structure and construct a new roller coaster ride, site improvements and ancillary buildings" such as an aquarium, a retail area, food service areas and a maintenance building for the new coaster. The project name is 'Sea World 2018 Attraction".

It'll be interesting to see what this is given they can't build anything over 30ft tall...

Technically they can if they apply for special permission. Journey to Atlantis is over 30ft tall but they went through absolute hell to get that thing approved. So yeah, I agree they'll try to stick to the 30ft limit with this one. We may see a fairly large hole appear in the not too distant futureCapt. Screamscape reporting that after the success of Tempesto at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, SeaWorld San Diego will install a Premier Rides clone for 2018. If true, it would be the first inverting ride at SeaWorld San Diego.
