Assuming its B&M this is definitely a Wingrider (if not a 4D, which I doubt).
On a dive machine there are two separate lift steps with a moving plate in case of a break down, just like Air.
The only Dive Machine with steps like those is Krake. I suppose they could be getting a Junior Dive Machine but the way this is being advertised suggests something allot bigger.
As exciting as this is.... really wanted there to be an exclusive wingrider deal with Merlin ... will never forgive the yanks if they take the spot light away from The Swarm :P.... can't wait for the announcement though, four days remaining .
It has been announced that the new coaster for 2012 will be called Wild Eagle. According to Dollwood's PR, the coaster will have a maximum speed of 61mph, will be 3,127 feet (around 0.59 miles) long, and will be more than 20 stories tall.
Here is the proposed layout and some concept art.
It does look rather good - although all I can think now is that The Swarm's impact internationally will fade with Flying Eagle and X-Flight. More details are available on the project's website. http://www.dollywood2012.com/

Bleh. I was expecting an ultra-terrain coaster like Boulder Dash, not just a stuck in the sky coaster!

I was expecting something more terrain based too. I can't really get a scale of those inversions from the details already submitted but they have started construction, so we should see some track work soon.
That said, I'm sure it will be a great coaster and yet another thing to add to list of reasons to visit Dollywood.

Question is, how easy would it be to make a Wing-Rider a terrain coaster? Considering Dollywood is in the middle of thick woodland, and the trains are wider than an average American, I can see why they didn't go for it...
Besides, Eagles don't fly close to the ground... It makes sense from a theming perspective... Even if it lacks near misses and the like, it will still be a very good coaster and will be perfect for Dollywood, it's missing a true adult coaster, and this will fit the bill whilst not being so intense it won't fit into the family atmosphere...

It Looks like Dollywood have drawn the short straw.
It’s a very formulaic B&M layout. 4 Inversions in quick succession then a couple of curves into the break run. The pacing doesn’t look to great and the ride time seems quite short. I also can’t help but notice there’s no In-Line Twist.
On the plus side the wooded hills is probably the best location of any Wingrider so far. But given how good a job Dollywood made of Mystery Mine I was expecting something a bit more inspiring from Wild Eagle.
We shall just have to wait and see.

I do wish though that it was a ground hugging coaster. Instead of just being a little bit standard and soon forgotten it could have been a world beating coaster.
Still good though.

Disapointing if I'm honest. 200 foot tall for a 130 foot drop.
Then it's the good old loop, zero-g, immelann. Of all the wingriders being built, I'd have thought this to have been the least likely to have a standard layout.
There's some interesting ideas, that huge wingover taken from Hydra and the figure-8 in the valley.
Should be decent, but not amazing.
Also, anyone else notice the colours on the image of the layout are backwards?

Technically, yes! It's supposed to be blue track with tan supports, and they've done it the wrong way. :P

I actually quite like it. Also if you look at the pictures of construction you can see the supports being nestled amongst trees, so there's nothing to say it's not going to be immersed in scenery. That picture's just a layout guide it doesn't show what foliage there is and around the site.
I think it's obvious it's not going to be on a barren landscape.
Also this is the first wing rider with a 360 degree loop.
With track exclusively made in the U.S.A., Wild Eagle will be the result of a collaboration between Dollywood and Switzerland-based Bolliger & Mabillard. More commonly known as B&M, ride enthusiasts consider this 20-year-old company the premier designers and builders of today’s best steel roller coasters.
According to Amusement Today, 11 of the world’s top 20 steel coasters were created by B&M. Its custom-designed coasters are often lauded for their smoothness and quality in addition to daring drops and thrilling inversions.
Wild Eagle is B&M’s first endeavor in the Great Smoky Mountains and the first wing coaster the company has created in North America. Engineers collaborated with the Dollywood team to custom design a mountaintop coaster that delivers the experience of flying.
In addition to being sky high, Wild Eagle’s unique cantilever design means you won’t have anything but air above or below as you ride! You are literally on the wings of the coaster vehicle seated to the left and the right of the main track. Only at Dollywood will you fly on the wings of an eagle!
With more than 3,127 of track twisting high above Dollywood, Wild Eagle makes the power of flight real. Precariously swooping. Daringly soaring. Decisively diving. Even the engineers are excited! Check out their renderings below. This is the year YOU fly.

Surprises wait around every turn on America’s first wing coaster. 21 stories to the top. More than 60 miles per hour. Four inversions. Here’s all the facts and stats to get you ready to fly! And once you’re back down on terra firma, remember to start planning your Smoky Mountains vacation today.

Why didn't they just build a flying coaster then. It's nice that they have given the manufacturer a little page of their own. I'm not sure of other parks that do this I think it's a nice little touch.

References again to pesky American polls! Amusement today. Bias against the US parks since 1994.

Nobodies posted anything In a while so I thought I'd give a quick update from the RCDB.
Taken 3 days ago
Sadly the positioning of the lift hill looks like one of the most impressive parts of the ride.

Funny how it looks from that photo like there's nowhere near enough clearance for a wingrider train on the entrance and exit of that loop! Optical illusion.

Optical illusion.... Or just really bad planning?
