Europa Park
Interesting Article about Rudolf Neumeier - designer of all 5 Europa-Park hotels
I had no idea that one guy is responsible for the creation of all the EP hotels - including Bell Rock!

I hate to bring bad news.
But the latest test videos shows a Wodan train going round and ending up at a snails pace at the end.
Test Video
Perhaps my original expectation that this won't be quite up there with Troy after all could be more appropriate rather than my thoughts after last weeks videos that this could truly incredible.
God knows why it's so slow. I hope it picks up again...

Knowing EP its probably been trimmed, they do like to tone down their coasters (ala SilverStar)
As far as I am aware, this ride is not being trimmed. Hopefully it is just testing and they're checking a few things over!

I'm sure that somewhere, probably in this thread, I read that GCI test as fast as possible then tone down to the lower limit and then find the optimal "setting" as they test more. I wouldn't worry, that last test video seems a bit slow to achieve a train every 27 seconds, ala Eurosat!

Well...AFAIK trims were not in the discussion. But they started the testing with only a half of those polyuretane wheels...I guess now Wodan is running with those "rubber" wheels only.
And probably that`s not because it too fast...but I guess it was too LOUD !
Anyway...it could have been a very cold day...maybe they`ll change the wheels again cause Wodan lost too much pace.
Who knows ?
(EDIT : Whoahahah...so much Missinformation !
Someone in a german forum reacted to this and said, that Wodan was running from the beginning on only with plastic wheels...and the people who were able to ride Wodan already said that we all should just wait until we ride it ourselves...cause Wodan is VERY intense...but as any coaster it has NOT always the same speed...that`s all !)

This is very worrying.
I think a speed differential is understandable but that latest video is considerably slower!
Let us hope.

Just came home from Europa Park...watching Wodans testruns.
Well...I went there hoping for good news...I knew I`d be able to compare, cause I was there when Wodan tested earlier...so I wanted to see live and in person, that Wodan still flies over the track.
Unfortunately this is NOT the case...Wodan looks horribly slow now compared to the earlier runs...no comparison...not at all.
It looses Speed much (!) faster than before...and the Speed Wodan has when it reaches the final brakes is about 1/3 of what it had before.
To be honest : It didn`t look exciting at all towards the end.
I don`t want to go too much into detail...but I really think most of the Airtime and the insanity of the speed is gone
EDIT : The sound changed a lot, too !!! Most of the "roar" ist gone, really...which makes me believe again that Europa probably changed the wheels...probably softer ones to make the ride a bit quieter ?!?!

Sad news.
If it runs like this at opening, I think I shall be demanding to know where Roland is.
Oh well. I'll just ride Blue Fire some more.
:P

Yeah...I think that`s REALLY sad news !
But maybe there is a little chance that even Europa Park might test it and say : This is too tame now !
Of course...that`s just wishful thinking...but there is a chance that they get back to the faster version...but knowing how family-focussed EP is...maybe those softer wheels were necessary so that the people in the hotel are not bothered by Wodans sound ???
I wanted that WODAN-FLYING-OVER-THE-WHOLE-TRACK-THINGY sooo much

Daaaaamn it looked incredible on the earlier videos - that's a real same. I hope these slow runs are anomalies!

We might go and have to remain loyal to some other ride, like Bloofi or Sylvia.
The shame.

Hi All,
this is my first post in this forum. I found it hanging around the web and i found it very interesting.
I'm italian and i'm a former cast member of Mirabilandia Theme Park (i used to work at iSpeed Intamin coaster).
I'm quiet shocked from the last Wodan's test videos. I really hope they will get it back to its original speed because in that way it would be a "small" jewel.
I've made some hypothesis about the current situation and i would like to know your opinion about them:
- nobody would build a wooden coaster with the intentional purpose to silence it. its sound is part of the experience! if you don't want noise, you just don't build a wooden!
- somebody wrote that tests are running from morning till midnight, but during regular season it will operate from 9am to 6 pm (around). Is it possible that they put rubber wheels just because the tests have to run till midnight and the Hotels are currently operating? Maybe when they will finish tests metallic wheels will be put back on. who cares if there is noise from 9am to 6 pm close to a "theme park resort"?
Thank you.
Ps. i beg your pardon if my english is not good enough

There are still 10 (!) other coasters running the whole day ... thounsands of people screaming, shouting, having fun, so they are not very quiet
And nobody who checks in in a theme park hotel can expect that there will be now noise.
There is a lot of screams coming from Atlantica which is closer to the hotels and village!
Most of Wodan is quite low to the ground, so a lot of noise won't travel!

Just to add, I can't see the point of testing a coaster at a lower speed than what it will run at in future. What ever results they gather would become redundant when the coaster runs at full pelt.
