Wrong. Casa Magnetica is one of the weirdest houses you'll ever step into. Except mine. Water runs upwards, chairs "stand" on the wall, bottles roll up a table .. and you feel like you're falling over, except when you actually try to fall over.

Is that what you're on about? It must be some sort of fun house. :)

I hope not. Poseidon is (brilliantly themed, but) a horrible ride. It rides like a shopping cart on a cobbled street.

They'll probably remove both. They share a queue line and station building, so removing one wouldn't really free up any space.  They need a major water ride as a replacement though, River Quest already struggles to cope as it is.

Upsetting news.

A Log Flume is a theme park staple and its awful that they feel it necessary to remove it in order to develop.

Casa Magnetica is a show/fun house.

I think it ran every 45 minutes. Everyone enters a room which is on a slant and a host demonstrates several optical illusions, sometimes with the guest’s participation. The room is at roughly the same angle as the roof on the left hand side, giving the illusion that it's one big building rather than a small one on its side.

Personally I enjoyed it but I don't mind its removal. It didn't have a very high capacity and would be much more suited to an Amusement Park or Fair where it could be a more personal experience. The trick with the water was quite nifty but as I said in my review it would have made much more sense if they took all the ideas in this attraction and added them to Feng Ju Palace (A Vekoma Madhouse). At maximum tilt the room would be tilted enough to do the same uphill flowing water effect but if the room was already on its side it would make the Madhouse more believable and really muck up your senses.

The removal of the log flumes is curious. They were so well imbedded into the surrounding attractions I’m not sure what they can be replaced with. It’s not a serious loss though. Apart from a very sharp turn after the finale drop there wasn’t much remarkable about them.

I do hope they’re replaced by another water ride. Also a passage between Colorado Adventures and the flumes current entrance would make the park allot easier to navigate.

On a serious German Board i read that Intamin build for 2013 a new Freefall Coaster like Th13teen for a Park in Europe with not many Space.
Its possible that this is the new Ride for Phantasialand.
A Ride like Th13tenn dont needs lot of Space, its unique in Germany and its possible to theme into mexico ore Mystery Theme.

Its not safe that PHL get this Ride, but i cant imagine which park buy a ride like this.
AstroDan

You know... a ride system like Th13teen would be BRILLIANT at Phantasialand! If you think how they'd theme it... it would OWN Th13teen.

With a better layout combined with the drop mechanism, Phantasialand could work wonders.

So i try to outline the main rumours of the most germans boards. Its very important to know that:
1. Phantasia Land's Fanboys are the most gossiping of all german theme park fans
2. These are rumours!

So you read
- Family Drop Coaster by Intamin (+Mine theme)
- AquaTrax by Intamin (+ Tibet theme (?))
- AquaTrax including Thirteen like Dropsegment at the end.

Right now all seems based on speculation and some charladies telling too much.
Only thing that got trough after a Fanevent yesterday is that we can expect the opening in 2013 and the adepted fans described it as "very big" project. So for thats enough from Germany!

Thanks for the interesting post Aveko! :)

I hope it isn't an Intamin drop coaster. Mostly for personal reasons, because having Th13teen at my homepark I'd rather they get something I don't have the chance to go on every weekend. Also I think however well you theme these rides, track and train they'll always be poor. Also I think they're just not worth the amount they cost for what they are.

I hope they go with the Aquatrax. Obviously Aquatrax with a drop would be the dream. It's tantalising that Intamin seem to be the only company to have come up with a water coaster that's a great coaster in its own right and they've only built one of them, a decade ago!

I like the idea of a Tibetan theme, though I worry the nearby China area would invade it and incorporate it into China. :(

Well to be fair on the other water coasters an Aquatrax is just a roller coaster that happens to get very close to the water.

Annoyingly Intamin have a habit of abandoning their best ideas. Mystery Castle opened back in 1998 but despite being the best tower ride I've ever been on they've never built another, not even as an alternative option to one of their very popular normal drop towers. They don't even advertise it on their website. The same was almost true for the Giga coaster. After building one it was a full decade later before the next. But the demand was definitely there as B&M have started building one only 2 years later.
Maybe they're just so expensive that the theme parks are choosing a different company as we've seen with the freefall drop.

It seems a little redundant for Phantasialand to build a freefall drop when the nearby Winja’s is packed full of trick tracks.

And Phannyland's sexy new ride waiting times, which makes it feel like you're more at an international airport than a sodding theme park!

^Those screens have been there since at least August - they're bloody good tbh, and really help you plan quite well.

THREE rumours about Phannyland from Screamscape today:
Screamscape wrote:2012 - New Attraction - (1/16/12) I’m hearing that a new attraction of some kind of coming to Phantasialand in 2012… just not in place of the removed Wildwasserbahn log ride. Given the lack of new construction so far, if something is coming, I’d expect it to be on the small side.
New water ride:
Screamscape wrote:2013 - Western City Replacement - In Progress - (1/16/12) The latest rumors from Phantasialand indicate that the eventual replacement for the removed log ride is expected to be a new highly themed water ride of some kind to open in 2013. The ride is said to feature both indoor and outdoor sections, and is likely to interweave with sections of the Colorado Adventure coaster, much like the Wildwasserbahn that it will replace. The rumors are not specific about what kind of ride this may be… if it could just be a more modern flume ride or perhaps something more like a water coaster style ride, though it just might have more of a Mexican theme.
And finally, bad news for fans of the parks bore-'em-up dark ride Silver Mine:
Screamscape wrote:2014/2015 - New Attraction - (1/16/12) Once the rumored new water ride opens in 2013, I’m hearing that the park may be planning on removing the SilberMine dark ride during the next off season for another new project in 2014/2015. Anyone else know more?

From Phantasialand's Facebook

In 4 hours we auction off the first boat of the wild water rides Stonewash & Wildwash Creek for a good cause!
The entire proceeds will be donated to the benefit of needy children.

Here it goes up for auction: http://on.fb.me/dein-stueck-phantasialand.
Happy bidding and good luck!

Made me chuckle a little. I know it's not the first time something like this has been done, but it's nice to see all the same. Good to see the money is going somewhere worthwhile. I'm curious as to how much these will fetch now though :D

It'll be interesting to see what goes in place of the flumes though (If anything :P ). It's a shame they've gone, as I always feel a flume of some description is what makes a park. Then again I guess when you are as small as Phantasialand things like this have to happen. Hopefully we'll see a new flume going in some time in the future.

*Crosses fingers for the River Quest of flumes*

Just thought I'd bump this topic up so people can see the background to this.

I've been following this rather closely since the removal of the two flumes, and recently some rumors have been flying around various German forums.

First of all, some photos of the site a few weeks back (Curtosy as the wonderful Sazzle)

Image
As you can see it's quite a sizeable plot of land the park have cleared.

Image
The plot stretches right over to Black Mamba and Colorado Adventure.

Image
I found this photo tragic. I really hope whatever is going there compliments CA, and fills the gaping holes in it :(

So onto the recent developments.

Windows have been boarded up on a building known as "the arena" (Assuming Google Translate is working right :P ) and it has been suggested that it structure may be either partly or completely demolished due to it's age. I have no idea what building this is or it's purpose, so if anyone can shed some light on this it'd be great :P

Image

Image
Photos from Troy on Phantasialand-Fans.de

Rumours seem to suggest that Phantasialand may have a contract with Intamin, but I can't seem to find where this rumour has come from, or if there is any evidence for it.

However, it's been suggested that we could see either a
  • MACK Water Coaster (Which if you ask me, seems a little unlikely given the space)
  • Vekoma Splash Party
  • Intamin Aqua Trax
Personally, given the size of the plot I wouldn't be a bit surprised if we don't see an Aqua Trax going here. There's certainly room for one, and a launch would really save space if it had one.

The plot thickens... :D

Indeedy they are my photos! I was due to upload them to photobucket, but you've saved me a job ;).

I was absolutely devastated when I visited the park in April this year, and I mean gutted :(. The atmosphere has all but disipated in the heart of the park.

The Arena is (from memory) the building opposite Talocan which houses the Ice Show, as far as I believe?? I managed to see a show in there last year and it was pretty grotty :(.
Image
The blue & white building to the left.

The 'windows' you see boarded up on the above photos are actually architectured holes in that very wall - it is the newly constructed walkway from the entrance plaza through to Colorado Adventure - and yes I mean literally THROUGH Colorado Adventure!
Image

The walkway above also now leads down through the Wild West area (what remains) through to Mystery Castle & River Quest, via a dirt bank and staircase/ramp. Looks very temporary!
Image

As you can see from the photos in the above post, and this... its a sorry sight :( I won't be returning until the park has finished whatever grand redevelopment plan they have.

In 2008...
The photos above are in stark contrast to the park I fell in love with during my 2007 & 2008 trips:
Image
From the same platform as the above pics - with the Phantasialand Bullet still open

Image
The Arena on the left, where the ice show is held, and in the background all the now demolished themeing.

Image
Everything in the foreground save for the building on the left has been demolished.

Image
Pretty unrecognisable!

Image
This entire area was either closed off or demolished when we went? It definitely wasn't accessible.

Image
Bottom of the old Main Street, with the Brandenburg gate. Looks absolutely nothing like this now!

Image
Absolutely nothing remains of this area - it was flattened for the plaza that is at the bottom of the Main Street. An absolute waste of space if you ask me! The double decker carousel now stands at the VERY top of the Main Street, completely blocking your view as you enter the park.

Image
Some of the lost theming by Wild Wasserbahn.

As you can see - I visited a very different park in April!!

Like Saz, the place just looks like a bit of a state this season! Can't wait to see what they do, of course, as they usually make good installations.

Well put it this way, the last time Phantasialand looked to be this bad judging by photos they built Black Mamba :P

I have really high expectations and can't wait to see what turns up :D

Yes, all their installations are good when they come around. You can always expect the highest level of quality and presentation.

I have just updated my earlier post with some 'in contrast' photos from 2008 - its such a huge gash in the landscape of the park :-/. My concern is they do another plaza and leave it looking terrible :(. I hate the plaza as it is now! It was previously an incredibly beautiful area with a great atmosphere.
