Alton Towers in 1966...

The gardens look stunning and the fair ground rides deadly! There is a wide metal slide with a vertical drop  awesome. When did the health & safety brigade ruin all the fun :-k

The open cable cars look like great craic... What can you see in there?

I was reading about Alton in the 60s last night! Watching that video just made it even more exciting, especially seeing people walking exactly where I've walked :D

There's still a few of those vertical drop slides around, they just seem to be a lot less common these days. Don't think it's a H&S thing as there's one in a children's play area at a wildlife park near me, quite a tall one too. Wanted to go on it myself but not having kids I thought I might look a bit odd...

I know there's three of them vertical drop slides around I've been on, I believe all these were removed due to them being tacky and low capacity, the cable cars can only sit 4 people but they are amazing, went on them a week ago!
They are at Flamingo land now.

I've been on some VSlides, they are fun, and one is air-time epic.

I've got a couple of vid's from my channel that may interest the vintage interests of some people, or maybe not:

1970s -

Corkscrew overview -

Ken Barlow (Bill Roache) history segment from TV

They should keep you busy for a while if you're into the heritage type stuff. Plenty more stuff on my channel ;)

Is it just the ' gondola cars' or the whole lot at F land?

I couldn't make out from the video if the original cable & poles are still in at AT, with a new gondola car... V3.

I think its a shame that the gardens dont seem to be anywhere near as good condition as they were back then when they were the key attraction. Would love for that to be fixed. Would also love for the death drop slides to come back as they are brilliant. So good I would consider missing out a coaster to go on them and im an adult.

Maybe they could put average slides in the gardens?
Love the video!
