Nice and quaint. I love it! It should be a great addition to the park. The theming of their new rides is getting better, and they proved they can also retheme old rides well too which gives them a new lease of life, something new to market but doesn't cost as much as a brand new ride.

I hope this continues. I hope that some of the old rides can be improved and that new rides are themed as well as Skeleton Cove and Raptor Attack, etc... This park could really do some great things if they just had the money!

I hope the "major update" is that they've been bought by Plopsa, Holiday Park-style!

From Valley Mania.
Lightwater Valley have today revealed their master plan for an on-site resort complex. The draft master plan illustrates that the proposed Lightwater Resorts will be home to 106 holiday lodges, as well as other developments including outdoor activity areas.

In September 1997, a planning application was submitted by previous owners for "resort facilities, including 204 caravans, 136 lodges, reception complex, extension to 'Pub in the Wood' and wet weather shelter." This proposal, which proposed a large number of caravans on agricultural land outside the theme park, was dismissed on appeal in October 2008.

Following a series of pre-application meetings with officers at Harrogate Borough Council since, a new set of proposals for the resort have been developed.

Lightwater Valley will be progressing further on-site technical work/surveys and detailed drawings over the coming weeks to inform their final proposal, and intend to submit their planning application to Harrogate Borough Council before the end of this summer.

This looks great! It certainly looks much better than what Flamingo Land have to offer. I hope this gets passed and the park are able to take a step up in the UK theme park industry.

:)

Looks very very nice, good to see the lodge idea making a return.  It's a shame caravans are included (I'm not a huge fan personally, but alas I know plenty love 'em), I would have rather had all lodges really.

Can quite easily see myself booking one of the lodges though if the plans do become reality!

Think you may have misread the article Craig - caravans aren't part of the new proposal. :)

That's the reason why I stated that it will be nicer than Flamingo Land's accommodation. :P

Oops  teach me to read stuff when tired!  Was a bit confused when I thought caravans were included, after visiting the park last year I know they were far from keen on putting those in!

Nothing wrong with caravans, they're fab!

But lodges would suit the Lightwater location better.

So is this proposal going down that bottom end of the park? Caterpillar/Trauma Tower etc?

^Yes, as well as wrapping round the railway embankment and up to The Ultimate (former Soopa Loopa site).

You can view the proposed site layout at the link below. :)

I love the idea of a golf course inside the Ultimate!

Though isn't there a bit of a health and safety risk there? :P

I might be wrong here, but wasn't there a golf course in there about 10 years ago?

Wow. That's quite an ambitious plan there. :)
My only concern is that I can't for the life of me think why anyone would need or want to stay overnight there. It's hardly a two day park. There are many things that I would say are higher priority than this, such as sorting out the park toilets and food.

Having said that, it does look rather nice. I love the plan to re-use The Wave's waterfall. And I suppose that for southerners such as myself, the chance to travel up the evening before and stay on site can't be knocked. But I still feel the park is simply too small at present to warrent this.

There was, but it closed not long after The Ultimate opened IIRC.

Here's a few photos of it before The Ultimate was built.

They're under no illusions that as things stand the theme park is far from a two-day attraction. The resort will be marketed as more of a "base" to explore Yorkshire.

Hopefully, in time, with the additional revenue streams the resort will bring, they will be able to further develop the theme park.

For many, just a place to chill out would be suitable.  Take a large family for example, the grandparents just want to get away and chill out maybe so a lodge would be ideal.  The kids or whatever can head off to the theme park for the day.

There's also the likes of Harrogate nearby, so it can always be used as a base for the surrounding area too.

My concern would be the lack of free land to then expand the park?

So would Trauma tower be relocated, and that area become completely closed off from the park?

I really think that if we get to the stage where Lightwater Valley run out of space to build new rides, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

It's not the main barrier to development of the theme park at the moment to be honest. :P
