If Thorpe really want to go after that number one spot, then they shouldn't target just one segment of the market. Although most of the recent developments have been thrill seeker attractions the park still has a good range of rides to suit all.

Also, Chessingtons shift to target just one families has done nothing to improve its situation. If anything the park has continued its decline in popularity and financial performance. Also, this was a Tussauds policy and with Merlin's core business being 'family entertainment' it is likely we'll see a shift in direction and project development for both parks.
On the contrary, Chessington had its best year since 2000 last year, not bad for a park that is apparently declining in popularity and financial performance..
1. Expedition Everest 2. Hollywood Tower of Terror 3.Superman De Acero 4. Katun and Nemesis 6. OzIris 7. Blue Fire 8. Black Mamba 9. Manta 10. Oblivion

The main reason for Chessington and i fact most of the theme parks in the UK have got more visitors is because of the credit crunch. Domestic tourism has gone up this year because people cant affored to go abroad.

^Yeah thats is true that why the Credit Crunch is such a Diamond for the Amusement park industry because lots of people are looking to do things in the same country rather than travelling abroad. But i would still rather go abroad and go to Europa Park.

2002-Collossus Opens
2003-Nemesis Inferno Opened
2006-Stealth Opens
2009-SAW the Ride Opens
2010-?
2011-?
2012-?
2058-?

Now that thorpe have opened Saw what is next? The worlds scairest ride and all that stuff. Personally i would like too see a couple of things at Thorpe park:

A Stand-up coaster, to add to near that [edit] banana ride, B&M, orange or green, or both?

A PERMAMENT haunted house ride (walk through A coaster, (flyer? Floorless? Spinning? Aquatrax?), it will hard but its been done before.

New Water Ride ( i dunno like battle galeons? But around the coaster on the lake :))

What are your thoughts? Any ideas? Speculation?

As I've stated in a few previous topics, I think Thorpe Park should rip-out Octopus Garden & Neptune's Beach and replace them both with a massive family area.

Possibly including a splash-attraction, like Battle Galleons, and a new family coaster, possibly an extrmely themed wild-mouse. :)

Thorpe Park won't exist in 2058 anyway as the world ends in 2012  .

Just because Saw is marketed as "The Scariest Coaster in the World" does not mean that's it. There's plenty of place for them to go. Before Nemesis Inferno opened, it was marketed as "The World's Greatest RollerCoaster Experience"- would you say that about Inferno?
It's just Thorpe's crappy marketing.

I'm sure, they only marketed Inferno, like that as it's Nemesis' counterpart, which is supposedly the most intense ride experience in the entire world. :)

but it's not #-o
It's all about pulling in the crowds, about making every possible member of the public come to ride the ride. Colossus was marketed a lot because it has 10 inversions. This doesn't necessarily make it a good ride.

I think for Thorpe Park to expand much more, they need to get rid of something. Personally I think No Way Out should go in place for something else, though I doubt they could squash a decent coaster into that space...

I'd like to see a stand-up coaster there. No fancy theming or stupid fake advertising to distract from the coaster itself, just a decent rollercoaster.

Adding YET ANOTHER rollercoaster to the park within the next 3-5 years will finish the place off for good. I mean if reliability is ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS (sorry for the caps but I fell in this case they're needed) then a new coaster will be the death. I mean then theres the issue of how direly awful another steel coaster would look crammed in - a concrete island of mangled, metal crap.

Now that thorpe have so many high quality rides, it baffles me that X is still there and that there are no plans for its removal. If they got ride of it, they could include the arena and therefore have enough room for a fairly large scale new coaster

I've renamed this topic as the Thorpe Park Future topic just to use it as a base for further discussion about future additions :D

Personally I think 2058 will be the year we see B&M debut their first launch coaster, at it'll be at Thorpe Park so they can completely crucify the reputation on B&Ms launch coasters :D

It seems to me that T/P's biggest area of customer disatsifaction relates mainly to the unacceptable length of queing time for rides which is largely brought about, not so much by gate figure attendance but directly as a result of the frequant number of rides unavailable on any given day. Comments other forums testify to this.

I think that X/ no way out should be redeveloped into a major dark ride attraction (Hek no one who has been on it could argue that it would be a major loss to the park). It could be remodelled into a dark ride similiar to the New Orleans haunted mansion at Disneyland LA. Not only could they utilise the overground space but like the N.O.H.M but they could perhaps also utilise underground space creating a fast moving carriage system with a capacity for dispacting high numbers of passengers. It wouldn't necessaily have to be fundementally a white knuckle ride but could focus on special lighting effects, animatronics etc. T/P really needs an attraction that a family group can enjoy together - ie a ride that small kids can enjoy without being frightened to death or exempt because of height / age restriction and that adults can accompany them on without being bored to death.
T/P is going to have to come up with something totally mindblowing if it is going to survice the future and the recession AND has to do something to dissolve its awful reputation of long queues for mediocre short rides and of course their reputatuin for ride unreliability. ... just a thought ...

I think a new maintance team wouldt go a miss!

On the ride front, I think they should build on the land infill they are doing at the mo behind Stealth to create a new family area and a new thrill area possibly including a flyer.
They then could create a better flow from the dome towards the park with a new plazza including more resturants and a dark ride to go along with the theme inside the dome. And it could include a more imersive entrance to Amity Cove.

That would create a nice entance to the park instead of walking through an unused (most of the year due to weather) part of the park.
