Since we're bound to get a little busier now, we'd like to welcome James to the TowersTimes Team. James has been on the forum for some time now, and has already contributed in the past, particularly during SW6 where he created the FAQ topic. He'll now be helping with SW7 in a more official capacity mainly on the forum, but also across TowersTimes.
So, errr welcome James

Well done James.
Ooh, a new team member? Welcome, James!
Whilst I can understand the team's decision to appoint James, I don't believe that it's fair to do something like this without advertising it on the forums beforehand. I am aware that the decision was only made today, but I think that in future, there should be the opportunity for other members to have the chance to apply and join the team. I apologise if this post causes any offence, but I've tried to be as diplomatic about it as possible.
So, once again, welcome on board, James.

Whilst we will sometimes ask people to apply for positions, we also like to look at people's existing contributions and make decisions as a team based on that. James has worked hard in the past on helping with SW6 and with forum contributions in general, so it was decided to bring him on board .
Oh, I completely understand that, Craig. I'm just slightly uncomfortable with how it was done. Thanks for putting me at ease, though.Craig wrote: Whilst we will sometimes ask people to apply for positions, we also like to look at people's existing contributions and make decisions as a team based on that. I've not seen him on a meet, nor in chat.
I've not even seen a vote on the forums for it, It seems that the Team hire on a very low key basis.
Either way, good luck to him.

Can I again just make a few things clear. James has been made a team member based on his contribution to the forum. There is no requirement to be on chat, or to attend meets to become a team member. James is a long standing, and extremely good contributor to the site. I'm somewhat perplexed that some people are a) being so disrespectful to come out with posts asking who James is (do some research, you'll soon found out from the 3000+ posts he's made) and b) suggesting that every single decision we make regarding team positions must go to some sort of vote or application process.
Believe it or not, we have had very few "votes" for new team members over the years. Only 2 or 3 application processes have taken place in the last 5 years or so. The rest (myself included) were chosen by current team members. As I've already said, we may run application processes in future, but they take a lot of time and effort to run and on this occasion we saw a perfect fit in James and so decided to offer him a place on the team.

I feel obliged to point out that I am rather smashed tonight, and mean no disrespect to James, or anyone else. So advanced (or retrospective) apologies to all involved.
I was just taken aback by the sudden announcement of a new team member with no advance warning. While I am aware that James is an established poster, He is a surprising choice as a new team member, especially when I had no idea that a position was available.
[/not trolling, honest guv]

The team decided earlier tonight that we wanted another team member to help us with SW7, after some discussions it was decided that James would be a good fit for this role. The team certainly don't need to advertise when a position is available.
I believe Vik was added to the team to help out during the SW6 project, it shouldn't come as a surprise that we have someone else added to help us with SW7. And as Craig has already pointed out in the opening post, James contributed to the website during the SW6 period.
