Thanks!

So, I've heard a lot of you have been missing the "thanks" modification recently, and after a lot of thought about how to bring together the best of thanks and removing the problems thanks cause us, we've hopefully come up with a solution to it to keep most people happy! :D

You should now see the "Thanks" thumbs up button towards the end of each post (and before the signature - it sits with the other buttons like report etc at the moment).

The system was hand coded by me to try and meet our needs as best as possible, but obviously there may be some little bugs to fix along the way also. Let me know here and I'll try and fix them.

So, what's different about this thanks system?

It is a very simple way of saying thanks to someone for a post. There is no thanks record, no thanks count, none of those features that caused us a lot of problems in terms of the server and load.

So, you click thanks, and a record of your support and thanks for that post appears beneath it.

Can I see who's thanked me, or how many thanks I have?

No. This system is very simple as I say, and does not count or tally or keep record of where thanks are. This is to keep the system as lean as possible for preventing server load, whilst retaining its core purpose - to show your support for a post.

How do I thank a post?

Click the 'greyed' out Thanks image in the bottom of a post. If its lit up green, you've already thanked that post.

How do I unthank a post?

Click the bright green Thanks image in the bottom of a post. It should then remove your thanks against that post.

Why does it not show on my own posts?

Because you cant thank yourself :P

Is there a limit to how many people or posts I can thank in a day or time period?

No. You can now thank as many people or as many posts by the same person as you like. Because there is no overall count or thanks tally, there's nothing untoward to influence in terms of thanking the same person, so these restrictions are gone also.

Of course, if you have any other questions or problems, please post them here for me and I'll address them as soon as possible!

Oh... and THANKS all! :D

Yeeea, welcome back thanks button! I am glad to see it back, but I am slightly disappointed with no track on how many thanks you have, it was a nice perk for a new user like me. It really gives a confidence boost to a new user when they get a thanks, I'm glad to see it back. Nice touch Joel, Thanks!  ;)

1. Exactly. :)

2. Can anyone see on my post that somehow I thanked it? Odd. Or is it just me, I'm sure it will be fixed soon. Or it was just a error, but I refreshed the page and it was still there.

That's it now, I am going to start writing my thanks down!

Just a minor niggle... When I press thanks, it refreshes the whole page, but does not go back to the same point on the page (back to the top instead). Now, I'm ont he iPrat at the moment not a PC, so it could be just an Apple thing.

Don't know how to repay you guys for re-adding the system.
Even if there isn't a count, at least I won't have the reflex to click a non-existant button anymore!

So, er... [Scratches Head] Thanks!  :)

I think it is, as I am on Apple and it does the same thing on Safari, Firefox and Google Chrome.

It does seem to be something to do with both Mobile Safari and IE I've tested it in so far and found it drops the anchor point out of the URL (the bit of the URL that looks like #msg123457 on the end) when it redirects back.

Its that little bit of the URL that tells your browser where to scroll to in the page.

I'll have a looky and see if theres anything I can do to get it working  :?

I'm gonna miss the thanks count :( however i will say that seeing who thanked your posts is a fantastic idea Joel! :D

and having this thanks system is better than having no thanks system at all!

I think we should be thankful [/shameless pun] to Joel for getting a thanks system sorted. Even though it's not as well-detailed as Irkoo was, it's better than nothing.
Big Dave

Certainly and it seems to load almost instantly and will probably be much more reliable. Then again, it was made by Joel so....... :P

It's good we have thanks back, but I won't be using it due to it refreshing the page. It just takes too long. :(
Big Dave

Too long? Almost instant for me :?
