Recently there has been a surge of post in these topics speculating about what the rides will be, whilst this of course is fine and welcomed most of the things being posted are about a wooden coaster, a floorless coaster or things of a similar ilk.
Would it be possible to have a separate topic for new and proper updates and then keep the ones that we have at the moment for whatever people want to post?
It is getting very annoying having to sift through several pages of "I want wood" or "It's going to be a wingrider" etc in order to find some genuine news!

I think it would save space to just create some way of allowing the team to highlight posts that provide news and information rather than separate them all out as it's nice to see news and then discuss it in the same topic rather than having to switch between topics. There's nothing wrong with people saying what they'd like SW7 to be and there's nothing wrong with just wanting to read informative comments rather than discuss with people too.
Yes but the biggest problem is that the majority of the post are not informative and no there isn't anything wrong with people telling others what they want or think it will be but people seem to be doing it several times within the space of a month.
I think having two topics for 2012 would be a good idea. One for speculation, and one for facts. Hell, why not have a third for humour / sarcasm?
But right now we know nothing about SW7, so there would be little point in splitting that topic up until we know more.

In the case of SW7 I think it would be unneeded for to have more than one topic at the moment, only due to the fact we know very little about the project so far. When a planning application comes into fruition or construction begins then more than one topic will make sense.
When it comes later on into projects (notably in the SW6/Th13teen) topics a mod or admin usually posts all important news and facts in the first post of the topic anyway, to save looking through 10s/100s of pages.
I can't say I'm taking much notice on the SW7 topic at the moment due to there being too much discussion on a wooden roller coaster, which we know will not be happening for SW7 as Morwenna herself confirmed the park have no plans for any wooden roller coasters in the future but are still working around the market research for in (in SW7s case wood is completely off the question).
As for the 2012 topic I'm all hands up for either: 1) A new topic highlighting what we already know, links to planning applications, possibly ride names etc... or 2) The first post in the 2012 topic being edited by a mod or admin highlighting the above. That way any quick information needed is easy to find either way.

Rather than speculation of truly feasible rides, much of it seems to be:
- "Hey, maybe it will be this obscure Vekoma never built before! Here's a video and full tech stats."
- Joke posts/pictures
- Merlin bashing without justification
- Anti-Merlin criticism without justification
To me it seems that currently a majority of the posts really aren't aiding discussion in any way. Clearly this is all subjective however. As Big Al says, there isn't anything wrong with saying what you want a ride to be. But with absolutely no idea what it could be, there are so many speculative videos you can watch, times you see people shot down for suggesting wood, hilarious pictures, or my least favourite: "You should just be happy we're getting anything at all! Last year we got nothing, so any attraction this year is good so stop complaining." As if we have no right to criticise eg the lack of exterior theming. But it works two ways of course.
I think emphasising that posts should be made only if they will constructively add to the discussion. Hate to mention the guidelines, but joke posts of just an image don't really add much at all.

I think the way forward for SW7 will be the creation of an SW7 sub-forum, as was done for SW6. I don't really follow the 2012 topic much, it's mostly rubbish.
To be fair at the moment the SW7 topic is all speculation and there are no "proper" posts as we havn't the foggiest what is happening with SW7 so anything is fair game (though maybe unlikely). When we get some movement on SW7 from Alton Towers (Announcement/ planning application) the SW7 topic will be likely restarted and structured accordingly.
i love the idea of a humour topic although it would need to be in ma's rather than "alton towers future".

I don't bother reading the topic for 2012 anymore. What happened to the excitement of a new ride? It's all people moaning how s**t the ride is going to be before it's even started to be built. Towers Times seems to have lost it's way in these areas. It's over-run with know-alls and arrogant little prats who think they know better than the person above them. Snide comment after snide comment to the point I just gave up. I'm sure when anything is released it will be all over "The Facebook" from people I want to read things from.
