Hello,

Hopefully you are now seeing our new forum software powering the TowersTimes discussion forums!

If you never got chance to experience our little test forum over the last week, you may find that some features are slightly different, so we would encourage you to spend a few moments studying the various options and settings to see what has changed.

Bugs & Problems

If you do spot any bugs or problems, please post them here to notify me of them. Aesthetic bugs and problems (i.e. things that don't look right) will be a low priority at this time and may take several weeks to fix. Bugs that actually cause issues to the use of the forums and operations of them will be prioritised, however please be gentle as we've had a hard week slogging away to get this far :P

Known Issues - Please don't report!
  • Facebook Connect is half completed in my profile - you need to visit your profile settings and click "link your Facebook account" on the left menu to get this fully working. It will let you sign in for now as normal though
  • Every topic shows as new and unread! - Not so much a bug, but an unfortunate side effect of the conversion. The new forum tracks what topics you've read differently, so you'll need to press the big 'Mark All As Read' buttons on the main index page to clear the NEW indicators
  • My username has illegal characters when I login! - Unfortunately this forum does not support single quoes i.e. ' ' in usernames at all. You should be able to login by DROPPING any single quotes in your username - e.g. Username's_Awesome would login as Usernames_Awesome instead. You'll still have a quote in your "display" name on the forum though.
  • Signatures - My gosh these converted awfully! I've really tried hard to clean them up via automated SQL commands to search and replace text, but there were a complete mess. If your signature looks a little weird, I apologise, as you will have to spend a moment recrafting it via your profile link once again
  • Passwords not working first time - Some old forum passwords aren't letting you sign in properly, even after re-entering your password when prompted. See below for help
  • Thanks have disappeared - This is actually nothing to do with the forum conversion, and instead is an ongoing issue with the external provider of our thanks system, Irkoo.com. It is unfortunately looking that Irkoo isn't going to come back up, and they currently hold all of our thanks counts. The team will be discussing the matter further and a plan of action once the dust has settled on the new forum. Apologies in the mean time though.
Password Not Working or Can't Sign In - HELP!

If your password doesn't work, you will need to click 'Forgot?' at the top, or the Forgot Password link on the login form to request a new password to be sent to your email address. CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDERS FOR THE EMAIL! If you still can't sign in, please email us on forum.help@towerstimes.co.uk and clearly state your username, what you think your email address is (or was if you need it changing) and we'll try to help as soon as possible. Bear in mind the team will be catching up on sleep on Sunday also, so please be patient with us if you email or reply for help.

And if you just want to say thanks...

... we love you too! Thank you for all of your support. It has been a whirlwind process from our selection of software, to its first testing a little under a week ago, to the customisation, a conversion test, a staff test, a member test, then a final conversion and mop up of all the settings and features again... its amazing we've done it in such a short time!

Thanks for such a swift change, staff. The new forum looks great so far and it's loading really fast for me.

Couple of bugs:
Not sure if you can do anything about it or not, but it seems that all image links have gone. So photo heavy topics like - or the RCT threads are near enough pointless
(I'm sure you are working hard on this as we speak. no really.)

Also, I just tried to tweak my profile, and got this message: "The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved."

Looking rather good at the moment! Have to say, it's rather impressive how quickly you guys completed the transition. Will have to see how things pan out, but yay! Hopefully this is the start of a cleaner, less buggy-crashy TTF :D

Looking really good so far Joel, well done!

One big bug is that when you click the quote button on a post, it puts the quote text in the quick reply box, instead of opening up a new reply.

Bug that I've found: I can't actually edit my signature to fix it* as when I try, it tells me that "The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved".

I assume it's trying to save a local copy of my avatar, even though it's hosted on Photobucket.

*=seems it broke because there's now a 300 character limit on signatures, whereas I don't think there was before - any chance of raising that a bit?

Besides the problems above I've also noticed that some browsers have limited access to certain features. I'm posting this reply in internet explorer and all I'm seing is a big text box. However I have the same page open in Firefox and I can see all the font options and smileys that arn't appearing in internet explorer.

Apart from that It's looking really good. Well done on getting the site back so quickly.

Fixed

Fixed

Fixed - kind of - I made the default that the quick reply box is "hidden" until you click the Quick Reply button at the bottom.

When the quick reply box is open, the forum intelligently redirects quotes to it, whereas when it is closed, it opens the posting page with your quote.

Yes it checks to see if it is legal ;)

Fixed :P
Joel

Dodgy random slashes keep appearing before quotes i.e. \'
Fixed :P

Nightfall, I'm looking into Internet Explorer now...
AdamJ

Bloody Chrome not opening the link, had to use Mail.app :x

It looks really nice! I guess to the untrained eye it'd be difficult to notice the significant changes, but tbh it looks so much nicer, and my god it loads quicker.

Hats off to Joel & 'Team!

Edit: I don't know if its been mentioned but whenever I try to edit my signature, I keep getting something about there being illegal characters in it, and I can't edit a single bit of it. It appears in a red box.

Thanks Joel! :D

...except it still won't work for me - I now get the following message:
The following errors occurred when trying to save your profile:
The following BBC is not allowed within your signature: anchor, bdo, black, blue, color, flash, font, ftp, glow, green, html, i, iurl, li, ltr, me, move, php, red, rtl, shadow, table, td, time, tr, tt, white.
I'm not using any of those tags. In fact, I tried removing everything from my signature except one image in 'img' tags, and I still got that message.

Hey Joel, My Avatar has messed up which I have read about in your post ^ but I can't find the page on my profile where I can sort it out?  :) thanks.

Found it, but now gives me a list of about 20 things that can't be in my sig?  :?

Image resize isnt working, but its no major issue. So far Im not experiencing any major problems :)

The next and previous links take you to strange places and this has been mentioned before, but might just be something the forum is meant to do. Posts also seem MASSIVE! Even if the post only has one line of text, it will still take up the same space as a post with a fairly large amount of text.

As has been said above, is there anything you can do to change the next/previous buttons?

It's really irritating me! But I know its not a major bug, and is more a 'it would be nice if' thing, so don't worry!
Joel

Aesthetics I'll look at over the coming weeks I'm afraid, they aren't a priority when we have broken inner workings still :P

Right, hope signatures and avatars should now be working all properly. Try again for me guys :P
