Irkoo (Thanks system)

Before anyone jumps down my throat, I'm well aware that Irkoo is an external system, not hosted or run by TTF, and as such the TTF team have absolutely no power over it. However...

I, and I know others, are missing the ability to 'thank' posts a lot :(. So, I was just wondering: anyone on the team know why it might be down, or when (if ever*) it may come back online?

Like I said, I know it's not TTF's system, but I just wondered if perhaps the people at Irkoo had possible sent 'round a message or something to people that use it, or if anyone on the team knew anything at all.

I realise that there's a 95% chance that the answer is "no idea", but meh, no harm in asking.

(* - I, in my completely naive and totally not-clued-in capacity, somewhat fear that it has died a death and won't return. Seems odd that the Irkoo homepage itself is also offline, and has been for so long...)

It's been down for maybe around 36 hours-ish now. We have heard nothing official from Irkoo yet.
There has been some small downtime in the past with Irkoo when they have server issues (so their website also does not load too) but there hasn't been an outage like this before.

As soon as we hear anything we will let everyone know, we are just as much in the dark as you are :)

^this tbh. :P

I'm guessing that, should the worse-case occur and Irkoo disappear, being an external system there's no way TTF could recover what thanks we had?

Thanks for the response, Chris :)

I'm not sure if we had access to the thanks data, it is something that Joel would have to confirm.

If my thanks count has been wiped then I will literally break down and cry.

Yup, in short, we know as much as you do about whats going on with it. I know attempts have been made to the author and owner of the service to find out whats going on with it, but so far no response.

And, due to the nature of the service in short, they didn't offer any kind of "backup" service either, so they have all of our thanks data, and I have no idea what anyones thanks counts were.

So if Irkoo doesn't come back up or don't supply any data, we have actually lost all of the thanks counts :[

Ok hardly a decent fix I know, but could we not use another service? In short we need a free system that will let people know that this is a good post. In effect then we just need something like the Facebook like button. Ok this means the user themselves dont actually get thanked/liked, but the post does instead. Therefore, why not use something like Google's +1? Not only does it thank/like the post, but also makes that post more likely to show up on Google's search results. Like I said, this isnt a decent fix, but just an idea I had.

I'm currently having TWS (Thanks withdrawal syndrome) :( I see a post and now I can only mentally thank that post, I want the shiny button back.

A quick Google of "Irkoo" shows that a lot of sites are just as confused as we are. Hopefully Irkoo will return, if not then it looks like we'll be moving over to a new system and starting a fresh, which is a shame for those with high thanks counts.

:P

To be fair, we have all "earned" our thanks counts for a good reason - and while this is "just the internet" we kind of have our own online reputations if you like.

I think in fairness we wouldnt be asking you to volunteer numbers to reinstate tbh, should the worst happen and we don't get it back. :P

You'll just have to work hard in 2012 to get it back up from 0 again :P

cant we go back to having area named reputations? or the staff awarded one? or the mysterious coloured one? you know all these long stays of systems for recognition that are always new and improved - until the system dies or a new mod / admin takes over.
