Post removal hypocrisy

Attraction Source and TowersTimes website news, comments and suggestions.

I would like everyone to remember that i was the one who locked the topic, i'm relatively new to moderating so i hope this isn't a nagative backlash on the whole team. With the number of reports and some of the trollish posts it was getting a bit silly and i wanted some advice from more experienced team members. No post was removed for been offensive only expletives and personal attacks where edited and images that didn't seem to be doing anything for the debate where removed.

No team member including myself has edited any post because it was disagreeable to others and the topic remained viewable so peoples freely expressed views where still available to be read, if people think locking the topic was wrong then i apologise but thats the decision i made, if you wish to PM me about it feel free.

I'm curious, if the image that was removed (the Tetris one?) was posted in the "-" topic in Ma's, would it have been allowed to remain?

Margaritas has seperate guidelines and is intended to me more "adult" and silly. As said the picture wasn't removed for its potential to offend it just wasn't aiding the debate.

In fairness if there really were that many reports then you did the right thing to lock it and confer with the rest of the team, Dave.

I just find it odd that this one topic has stirred up so much controversy, when much dodgier this are posted on TTF every day, without anyone batting an eyelid.

Where are these separate guidelines? They aren't in Ma Garrita's or in the main forum guidelines, other than to say "Swearing and bad language are advised to be kept to a minimum and not to be used strongly and unnecessarily outside of the Ma Garrita's." I didn't even realise swearing was OK in there!

Corner Coffee is more a place for serious, constructive discussion. Ma's is more for posts of a spammy/humourous nature. The point is here that the images were way out of context for what was actually being discussed. People were putting some very detailed views across, and the images got in the way of that discussion.

That said, posts in any forum can be removed at the discretion of the team, so although Ma's may be a little more relaxed, it certainly isn't an "anything goes" kind of place before anyone starts posting God knows what in there :P.

Although I haven't been around the past few days, can I remind everyone that although we want to know if you think we have done something unjust, that the whole team always try to operate in the best interests of the forum, and do it completely voluntarily. Mistakes do happen and I hope members are understanding of this.

We are not robots!

I do find it a bit strange that on the one hand you have posts saying that dark or controversial humour is unacceptable on the forum or meet-ups, such as the Hillsborough meme, yet on the other hand I've seen loads of posts from long-term members who say Ma Garrita's is "not what it used to be" and has been toned down since the days of the baudy and sweary Tavern. :?

In a large group some people will not like the dark or controversial (genetic surgeon) humour, the forum has always been very relaxed about it. As has been said countless times nothing in the thread was removed for its controversy, only personal attacks, swearing and trollish images where removed. If it adds to the debate it was kept.

On another note, I find it disappointing that some people appear to have the desire to criticize some elements of the meets - noticeably some of the meet up memes. TowersTimes meets have never claimed to be anything other than a little crazy, sometimes risqué. We are not a paid for fanclub. I have been attending meets since early in the 2006 season, and I assure you that meets then also contained what some would see as obscenities.

Does it mean that said people actually find a tragedy amusing? No it doesn't. Tell me, when there have been murders of famous celebrities in recent years - how long has it been before sick jokes have circulated around the web? Does the fact that when newsreader Jill Dando was killed, that people were joking "Jan Dildo" that people found her death hilarious? Of course it does not - it's the way of life and that's how people can be. People joke about Diana's death. People joke about Hitler - even on national media - he killed a hell of a lot more than were killed at Hillsborough yet we all openly laugh and joke about that.

It's not like said obscenities are screamed at loud amongst dozens of other theme park guests - certainly in the UK we take a lot of care. Sometimes it may slip, but that isn't on purpose. Also, it may slacken slightly abroad, but by no means would I see a bunch off TTF people loudly shouting "Hillsborough" and pushing people onto a train on a German coaster, for example. You'd usually find it in a quieter part of a park or somewhere away from crowds. It's all part and parcel of the meets, which I must add have improved considerably since what was a pretty low point in May.

If anyone would like to take up issue on any of these points, please send me a private message. If anybody genuinely finds it unacceptable that any obscenities make their way into meets, then I suggest, without offence, you find an alternative place to indulge in your passion for parks and rollercoasters.
