I imagine if the track needed to be maintained out of the lower position they would have to take it out, which we know has been done in the past, unless the upper track locks can hold the weight of the tower

And yes the backward launch uses friction wheels using pressured hydrolics from the drop system

There must be some kind of safety system in place to leave it up or down. For example if the ride had just entered the building and someone hit the E Stop button, the ride would surely stop and the drop wouldnt happen.

I imagine it will be like the scissor lifts and stuff where you can press a button and they wont move. If not there will be some kind of bar or something that would slide in so it cant drop.
