10 years later...

Got an idea of how the Alton Towers Resort may develop over the coming seasons? Discuss it here.

Surely if Alton wanted to promote helping the environment they'd introduce recycling bins and some kind of extortionate charge people had to pay if they arrived in cars...

Yeah, and 13 is the ultimate rollercoaster.

If Alton jumped on the tree hugger bandwagon i'd lose all my respect for them.[/quote]

So everybody who cares about the environment and takes action to try and cut down on carbon emisions is a tree hugger?

And according to you global warming is a myth is it? Even though there is scientific evidence proving that it is very much real?

They did introduce reycle bins, I believe, in 2008. However, there was only 1 left (near Air) by the end of last season. :x

Global warming/climate change is very much real. It is not at all man made. And Britain doing anything about it it is pretty pointless considering our almost negliganle influence on pollution.

However this is getting way off topic.

Anyway, ten years later Alton Towers could be completely different for all we know. What matters now would not necessarily matter again ten years later. I would love to think Alton Towers will progress positively, though. I think they will, and hopefully gain a better international reputation than they have now.

I think they should fix their theme park to the highest standard, leaving no half-hearted rides left with big improvements and refurbishments made. Then they should focus on their resort image and entertainments. They have a long way to go with entertainments, whereas their theme park is at a pretty good standard now. It would be great to have Alton Towers Resort a must-visit place to stay.

EDIT
Whoever edited my post, it would be nice if you could leave the colour alone! :P Sorry about what I said that had to be removed anyway.

Pointless info time... I saw a few recycle bins last season in Mutiny Bay and near the lake. :)

I think the next ten years will be big for Alton. Quite a lot has changed over the past decade, although we've had the 'dark years' which have taken up quite a lot of the past decade. Now Alton have a secured team of people, owned by a big company. More money is getting pumped into the park, I think this will be the start of the 'new' Alton Towers.

How the park will physically change I'm not sure how much of a difference we'll see. I'd at least hope to see some areas given a completely different look, such as a different structure and landscape. An completely new area would be nice to, Alton have seemed to have played it safe recently. I want them to be bold and step out of the safety zone and do something a bit wild.

I'm gonna bring this topic back to life! :P

Anyway, what rides do you guys think will have gone by 2021? I expect many of the older rides will have been removed/replaced, including The Flume, The Blade e.t.c.
Alton Towers Top 31. Air 2. Oblivion 3. Nemesis

I can see a new log flume or water coaster being added within the next couple of years because they haven't rethemed the flume or cleaned it up, even though the contract with Imperial Leather is over. Are they leaving it because a new one will be added soon?

In ten years...I can see the park in a good position. The resort will be a major player with other resorts in Europe. A new hotel should be added along with the entertainments complex. I reckon the Flume will be gone within the next ten years and that an AquaTrax or a flume ride will take it's place which could incorporate a small dark ride section for the first part of the ride. As unlikely as it seems, I would like to see the Jazz land concept come into fruition within the next ten years. Would be nice to see some Robo Arms in the Dark Forest.

I wonder if what technology with come though in the next ten years? Will we have a multimedia 3D coaster maybe in blackhole tent.

maybe a 4D ride like 'honey, i shrunk the audience'

This isn't much of a prediction, but what I would personally like to see.

The recession will be a few years passed and things will be picking up financially over the world meaning profits will be going up and prices wont be as drastically risen year on year, car park price stopped, sponsorships withdrawn etc...

Merlin manage to get a permit for a big coaster at Alton Towers that can go above the treeline, a one off that blends well with the countryside. Possibly a wood coaster or a metal with green/brown track.

Big expansions to the park. I've been to the park on VERY busy days and never seen car park M used (the massive field on your left as you drive into the park). I'd like to see a whole new area here, bigger than any themed area on the park so far with multiple rides, not necessarily roller coasters or thrill rides, but a bunch of rides that all work very well together to fit within a certain theme.

I'd like to see a section of the park opened for the whole year. Currently during the off season the hotels are open with a small flat ride taken to the hotel for children. If my above idea about a big themed area was built in the area i mentioned, then maybe having it covered so it could open for the off season would bring in teens and young adults over the closed season as well as families with young children.

I would like to see a second entrance, just as grand as the first however, for hotel patrons, AP holders and internet prebooked tickets, all of which will be electronic tickets to make access faster and queues almost non existant.

I would like to see something innovative too like group passes. 20 people buy a single ticket and get escorted round the park with a guide and get quicker access to rides, and all 20 people on at the same time to make it a joint experience. (possibly only offered during quieter times)

Thats all i can think of for now, but im sure there are a million more things I would like to see.

sorry for the long post!

I'd love to see something done with the flume, it's moldy and falling apart, although a new water ride should replace as it would be missed. Also something done with the blackhole tent- overall alot of the park is looking old particularly X Sector & Gloomy Wood.
Nemesis will be getting old by then, but I hope they just refurbish as it's still a fantastic ride.
A5H

I have been hoping SW7 was going to be replacing The Flume and would be something similar to Poseidon at Europa Park, but with the price of SW7, I seriously doubt it's going to be something similar to that.
Dormiens-Dave

she's long gone but i assume had some knowledge of SW7 and Morwenna said to a few people at the thirteen event that the flume isn't on the cards to be removed.

But things could have changed since her departure

1. The addition of a USEFUL shuttlebus/train station that actually shows up
2. The hopeful revitalisation of Forbidden Valley aka BACK TO FORMER GLORY!
3. Air finally getting some proper themeing
4. Dark Forest - Proper theming to make it look right
5. Gloomy Wood - Improvements are the removal of Dual and a new attraction in the house.
6. Prices will most likely go up
7. YourDAy style thing WITH actual good tech
8. SW 7, 8 and maybe 9
9. The loss of a loved ride e.g. Maybe Air or Rita (Nemmy will hold on till the last minute)
10. The Towers getting some well deserved TLC
11. Spruce up the X-Sector, some new rides (maybe SW7 will be black hole location)
Don\'t like me learn to put up with me
ZenakuShi

All of this is, if we survive all this 2012 apocalypse theories and survive and the world DOESN'T come to an end ;)

I can see Nemesis unfortunatly gone, and possibly a poor spin-off in it's place, Air will still be as badly as themed, and Coaster Corner would be in use- with new technology ensuring that the rides there (yes, I mean roller coasters) to be 'silent'.

But one thing I cannot see, is a woody. Despite the fact that it's what us enthusiasts want, Merlin will strike and will 'ban' any plans for one, as they already now have a bad rep (despite some of the woodys being the best of all coasters, and a loved classic)

AT will have a huge expansion, (somehow bulldozing all houses and roads in the way) and most of which will get rundown very quickly and maybe some all-year open rides. They shall also scrap that tree limit rule, and will have built into the valley and Gardens.

Lots of things will happen in the next decade, but the one major thing I want to stay is Nemesis. Then there might be a hope that when I have kids, they would be able to ride it. Let's face it, that coaster has saves our theme parks in Britain.

Nemesis is bound to stay. I mean, it won that most popular coaster contest that Alton Towers was running by a large margin, they'd be stupid to get rid of it.

I can see car parks moved to enlarge park, drop in car spaces to be replaced by coach and minibus parking as vehicle fuel become too expensive for visiting by car.
Pay to use electric vehicle charging point in 15% to 20% of car parking area. supplied with electric from bio digester(s), using left over food and rubbish, that would cost too much to dispose of due to land fill tax.

man made hills around the land outside the park to act as acoustic barriers to allow rides to head upwards. Forbidden Valley with be re-themed as Alton Towers classic.

a new generation of simulator rides, that cost a lot less to operate as steel coasters but much more flexible. that can have ride type change for overall themes going on in park, eg scarefest.
