When Parc Astérix installed Tonnerre de Zeus - it was one of only very few modern Woodies in Europe. When they installed Trace du Hourra it was a Mack Bobsled unlike any other yet built - taller and, for the first time, not themed around Skiing. When Goudurix was installed, it was a massive statement of intent although to some degree, that too was a direct response to the similar coaster which opened at Mirapolis (and then closed).

Europe has seen a massive number of B&M Inverted Rollercoasters in the past decade. Nemesis Inferno, Batman, Black Mamba, Katun and The Monster have all opened. If Walygator are opening one, then it would be nice to think that Astérix would try to do their own style of ride. However, evidently the B&M Inverted range are generally so reliable that it would be an easy option.

Astérix will also no doubt theme their coaster, which probably isn't going to be the case with The Monster. However, in terms of layout, doing better than a Raptor clone is going to be mighty difficult. Will they go for a 100'+ model or a terrain style Mamba/Nemesis model? Surely they wouldn't build a really tall model as they won't want the shine taken off Goudurix (especially as its just had a lovely re-paint and the station has been themed up)... I also cannot for the life of me think where this will go?

Interesting times. I have always maintained the view that Astérix, given their high gate figures each year, never invest as much as you would expect in the park - much like Efteling. They only seem to build when there's a threat.

I think it's also worth pointing out that B&M only build 3 coasters a year out of choice. So there is a good chance this has been on the cards for a few years now even before Wallygator acquired The Monster due to having to wait for B&M to get done with current orders. The rumors of another B&M at Thorpe involving Mr Wardley have gone back a few years and if their new 2012 coaster is this said B&M then Asterix could have had theirs on order for quite a while and have just waited their turn.

I think in the cases where a lot more than three have been built in one year, it has been down to more than one clone being built. As this would not require any planning, purely the construction from the previous plans. For example out of the 7 built in 2002, 3 were Batman clones.

U all know about the rumours that the French Themepark "Parc Asterxi" get an BM Coaster in the next Years.
But now its safe and u can see the Layout, and its really awesome:

Yes! :D

I loved Park Asterix but it really was missing a decent-sized modern coaster. This seems to have ticked all the right boxes. The Egyptain theme should be interesting too, knowing the exceptional theming I experienced I'm sure it would be incredible. The only gripe I see is having all three major coasters right next to eachother at the back of the park.. surely better having them spread out?

It has been a rumor for a long time. I first heard about it more than 5 years ago!
Now it's becoming reality, France is going to have its second B&M inverted coaster in 2012.

I'm expecting a lot of the egyptian theming, knowing what this park has allready done.
But It's not sure the ride will be at the back of the park. Nothing is sure yet, we'll have more infos very soon I think.

The layout on this looks superb. Unique. With Asterix's theming quality too, this could be right up there with the Katun's and Montu's of this world.

Underwater section, too!

Yipee! Finally a world class, modern steel coaster for Asterix! They need it so bad.

As I’ve said in another topic it's excellent to see inventive B&Ms again.

My only slight worry is that it’s still quite "by the book" with the first half being a string of inversions and the second a few meandering corners. If it carries the speed into the second half then I’m sure it will be a great ride.

On-ride NoLimits simulation.

Looks like it will ride like an absolute beast. Poor Monster, it's reign as France's best invert is only going to last a year...
Blaze

Looks a beast, but someone seriously needs to teach that guy how to use NL, it's a poor recreation [/NL geekery]

Thanks to Screamscape. Lance says he reckons that the "IC" in the part number means Inverted Coaster and "X-Works" indicates an international customer.

Looking good! DLP/Asterix visit in 12 is making it's way on the cards. That park needs to earn back my trust :P

^Thanks! :)

I don't know much about the parks layout exactly. Even less from that picture but doesn't that show that it's pretty out of the way? and theres a large space between that and anything in the park? Obviously I know it's only tree clearing and not much has happened, just saying.

Looking forward to this B&M invert! Nice to see a little difference in the layout from the norm.
Yeezus just rose again!
AstroDan

It looks like it's planned to go next to Oxygénarium (Storm Surge :P). Be good to see a heavyweight attraction in that corner.

It will mean that the three big coasters at Astérix are each in a corner - good plan!
Anyone have any idea what type it is yet? Or what type are you hoping for? :o
It's been all but confirmed that it's a B&M inverted coaster. See the topic title. ;)

Think Nemesis. :P
