ENOUGH WITH THE ICE SHOW TENT AND ANY OTHER TENTS!

Alton are now becoming one of the largest resorts in the UK, there's no need to be using tents anymore thats something you should get at blackpool pleasure dumping ground which although has good rides a lot of it, is a dump.
The Ice show tent is more of a pernament building like the old Black Hole tent, its more like a pavileion than an attual tent. If you keep the main tent away from most people so they can't see it, like they have (i'm to belive) and u have a perminant entrence then it isn't too bad.

I'm pretty sure they'll put an overlay/some scenary at the entrance, so when you do walk into the tent, you don't realise.

That Shrek cast is from the Madame Tussauds waxwork - Alton Towers store a large number of the casts for the waxworks at MTL.

Does anyone else realise that Alton are just sitting there, obseving the forums and laughing at us?

This is a mould, not scenary. From Madame Tussads, not for Alton. In storage, not for Alton's use.

Alton are doing this to hype up the forums because well, Alton havent thought of anything new for next season.

Anyone else seeing through this barrier of us wishing we have something to celebrate for this next season? When we have no evidence prooving that we do? Or anything to base our conclusion apart from a mould?

Hello world?

Who doesn't love that comfy piece of chance?

If there was Harry potter model or the simpsons or a mickey mouse model or something, would you just presume this is what next years attraction would be based on.

Someone got the idea and now a lot of people (not everyone but some) presume that next years attraction will be a Shrek 4d one.

I saw a mould to something what looked like a shark so next years attraction will be based on JAWS.

To presume that next years attraction is Shrek based just because of piece of scrap that has 'Shrek' written on it is silly.

If Alton had a decent plan already they would advertise in park at least by now.

Even Thorpe are advertising the ultimate water slide for next year. (which in my opinion it looks a poor adition)

hmmm just wondering, isnt Alton Towers now owned by merlin? wouldn't that sugesst that the scenery department is now merlin too?

You can put up some pretty insane lighting rigs in those tents, im not confident that they could hang the truss from motors though as pre-mentioned wind problems but if they did it with bolted uprights i think they could manage it.

But that doesnt matter as we are not getting a 4d cinema next year or the year after, so go ahead quote me :)

I do see the 4D cinema for 2011 and it would be great for 2011 family year but the shrek i don't see. Dreamworks who own shrek, why would they put it in alton towers, the other park shrek 4D are in are
Universal Studios and Movie Park Germany so why would they put that in Alton towers.
Also it could be anything a code word? or a event Alton towers are doing or did do

Towers have confirmed the Shrek 4D attraction already and it's certain to be where the Ice Tent stands right now. It isn't false, an allegation or something the park set up to fool us. Merlin Entertainments have confirmed this as exclusive news to the TTF Team itself and several have known about this for a month. I doubt the company/park would pull a 'prank' like this.

Meanwhile Shrek's bust is 75% possibly from Madame Tussauds in the Towers as storage, but may also end up being used for this attraction. Otherwise it can just be a massive hint to the GP on what will be coming to the resort next. The cast model I think everyone should calm down about now as it's getting ridiculous.

On why Universal/Dreamworks have chosen Alton Towers as an across-the-pond theme park to place one of their CGI cartoon star personas, it's possibly because they have a relationship that is building up seeing as a while back the Alton Towers Hotel had screenings of Madagascar etc and that went very well as far as I know.
There is also the fact Shrek is very popular over in the UK and is a continuous source of success to Dreamworks and the film industry, yes the films have ended but the franchise will always earn more money (after all it is the fourth highest grossing film series of all time!) through short films, advertisements, merchandising and IP renting for events, so on and so forth.

Then on why the park haven't begun advertising the new attraction, is most likely because they have been busy with Scarefest and the Fireworks events as they currently have to cater to the audiences attending them. The advertising, marketing and PR may be up by the end of the year when Shrek Forever After is released on DVD in December, when Dreamworks and Merlin may do a tie-in addition alongside the DVD/Bluray.

The Ice Tent issue meanwhile, the area intended for the attraction is basically perfect for families because Adventure/Storybook Land and Old Mac's Farm is where some of them tend to stay around on resort aside from Cloud Cuckoo Land and Mutiny Bay up to Gloomy Wood.
The Ice Tent can be removed and replaced by a higher, state of the arts building for intended 4D uses to last a long time (as it's likely Shrek will only be around for a few years, then replaced by another film).
If that's not going to happen then they may just update/upgrade the Tent, remove the stage, install the screen plus effects needed, transform the interior into that of a fairy tale and fix the area around. Hopefully the exterior theming will make it appear wonderful rather than grubby, which is how it appears right now.

Remember everyone, this is intended as a family attraction and the Shrek series is very popular with children, so having a custom film MADE for Alton Towers is a big step in success and not a step back into failure, because it means for the child audience an experience they will most likely not forget. It'll get even better if they are regular visitors to the resort too and find one of their favourite CGI characters brought to life through 4D.

If you're not a fan of the Shrek idea, then that's completely fine as no-one here is forcing you to like it. Just appreciate the fact Alton Towers are (technically) bringing back the 3D/4D cinema and that the attraction may become an absorber for long queuelines, and as enthusiasts we adore short queues. More importantly, it's best not to judge until the park opens for the 2011 season.

Just wait and see.

I love how some people were willing to believe the crazy theory that Th13teen would have "giant-ultra-high-definition-screens-that-do-3D-but-don't-need-glasses"... Yet refuse to accept the hard fact that we will see a Shrek 4D cinema next year.
fredward

Th13teen did have those screens didn't you notice them in the crypt the where right after the 90 degree tilt...

I'm starting to look forward to this addition... call me weird but I do love the Shrek franchise (even though I havn't seen the last one yet!) and if universal/dreamworks is heavilly involved then maybe it could add some decent funds for theming in the pot?

[s:hypkrepb]OK.[/s:hypkrepb]

Merlin Studios will do all the theming. I think a refurb'd entrance and nice new signage will do the trick. Some large scale decor inside the theatre will be very nice as well. However, I doubt we will see anything mind blowing on the theming scale, it just isn't needed for this genre of attraction, and we already have a good facade as it stands.

I think the attention should go to the film. Is it confirmed whether they are making a whole new movie or just re-using the one they play at Universal Studios? That one is quite out of date now, but I remember it being rather good.

Imagining Shrek 4D (Universal style) soming to Alton Towers is quite interesting actually. A 4D attraction with Shrek's setting, if done well (which I am pretty sure it will be), will snuggle into Storybook Land very well actually. It will give it that extra attention that it has been lacking, and a small "4D" based on an IP is not so intrusive as, for example, a rollercoaster on an IP. :)

I think this is great news if it turns out to be true!
Wether you like Shrek or not, its a new indoor attraction for Alton Towers which is needed if it is to become an all-year round resort in the future.
Shows have been lacking in recent years and this will go some way to filling the gap.
Is the 4D cinema at Thorpe Park still operating? It doesn't really fit in with the Thrill Capital image and was never full when I went on it, could some of this equipment be destined for the towers where I think it will be much more popular?
Time will tell.

This thread has been an interesting reade, is it or isnt it kind of way.

Im for the idea of a Shrek 4D as ive been on Universals one in Orlando an thought it was class. I hope they go for the holding room as they did in Universal as that was a great build up to the film and it helps with keeping the queue interesting.

I dont see a problem with this being in the tent, the tent will be semi sound proofed as it used to hold ice shows etc and they would have had music playing. Also with the theming that is in front of the building the tent is quite hidden.

The area does lend its self to Shrek as it has the fary tail element to theming already.

The Shrek IP does make sence as Merlin is owned by Blackstone who also have a share in Universal Studios. It make for a good across the pond partnership.

initially I was happy to see the idea, Id love Alton to have a 4D cinema and we all know the entertainment side is a let down atm.

However after seeing the crap mould and biro - i was exceptionally sceptical and presumed members saw something and jumped to an incorrect conclusion. Hey it wouldnt be the first time.

But now we have reports of other TTF people knowing, which Im also sceptical of. As again its not the first time we've been wrong. I remember during the Ug Land refurb to fit Rita the 'bone arch' going down and one member going mad at me for saying perhaps the 'UG LAND' sign wouldnt return. And it didnt, and that was a trusted member - so im always doubtful.

The only, only thing I can trust that supports this idea is that next February the Storybook Land / Farmyard arent opening for half term, which is the first time in several years. But perhaps its time they needed abit more maintenance as they do open at Xmas, and also Cloud Cuckoo Land should really be the priority to open as its the newest area.

Meh - I dunno, but to be honest im still doubtful.
