Considering how many people who work at Alton Towers monitor this site, its a shame none of them could quietly confirm whether this news is true or not. Damn you confidentiality clauses!
I'd hope that an announcement would be made officially at the end of the season, but it seems we could be waiting longer than that...
Look, let me spell it out.
ALTON TOWERS IS GETTING A SHREK 4D CINEMA NEXT YEAR.
End of. Sorted. Now let's move on and talk about the upcoming attraction for next year.
Out of interest, what will you eat if this doesn't happen?
Just so I know someone is going to be sick as a result of whatever happens next year!
It would make sense to announce it ASAP as it will tempt people who will be at Scarefest/Fireworks to come back next year.

It doesn't just make sense it will also be a cost effective way of advertising. A few posters/leaflets is nothing compared to the cost of tv and radio advertising. Updating their website would also be cheapish but thousands of people don't look at that whereas thousands would have looked at a few posters this week.

I think people need to remember how many times this community has been 'burnt' by false information. What to one person is an extremely reliable source of information, is to another a source no different to that which told us SW6 would be a B&M.
I personally trust those who are telling us that Shrek is coming in 2011, but I can 100% understand why others don't.

I think what Alton are doing is making sure all the marketing focus is on Scarefest and the Fireworks events, and then Shrek will be announced during the closed season so then all the focus will be on that. I see how it could be useful to advertise Shrek during these events since thounsands of guests will be visitng the theme park during these times, but then Alton will need some form of marketing over the closed season to get people talking about the new 2011 attraction.
I'm happy that there will be such a big attraction for 2011(I wasn't expecting anything after £15mil being spent this season), glad there will be another indoor attraction since that's what Alton have lacked over the years. Not sure about Shrek being the theme, but it fits perfectly with the family market for next year.

I wont be partaking in that, thank you very much!
I haven't got a clue what's going to happen next year, nor am I pretending to!
It was more in response to this;

If Alton Towers get a 4d next year i El patricko will eat a steak garnished with pond weed.
I reiterate... from the sources I have spoken to, the ride for 2011 is going to be Shrek 4D, there was no word of another possible ride.

Surely any possible ride is a positive thing considering we expected a relatively quiet year after last years investment! Whilst Shrek as a IP may not have been the best decision, if indeed it has been finalized, it's still going to add yet another type of ride to Alton's line up.
Maybe, like Drayton Manor did with Skull Rock and Happy Feet, they'll introduce a different film for following seasons with the actual attraction being more of a Storyland Theatre Showing; Shrek 4D. Appologise if it has already been suggested.

I think this is unlikely in the short term as the cost to buy the rights to show something like Shrek, most likely far out-weighs what Drayton Manor paid for Happy Feet. The Shrek brand is huge in comparison. Also, Drayton opened the theatre with a fairly basic, cheap and poorly animated film which used no IP. They probably used this as a stepping stone just to spread the cost, and will keep Happy Feet for a couple of years.
If Shrek 4D does come to Alton Towers, which despite having some reservations about some of the comments made, I believe we will see next year, I'm guessing it will be around for at least three or four years - quite possibly more.

I just feel that unless kept fresh or jaw drooping theatrical pieces, who doesn't love being nestled in the roots of a Baobab tree with insects seeming to crawl under your bum?, these type of attractions get repetitive very quickly.
Judging from Shrek 4D at Universal Florida which was, out of the pre-show, a large blue room with a screen and a few Duloc banners. It wont be spectacular! Maybe it will get a mention around the time Shrek the Musical opens in the Westend around may?!
New ride is 'MY FIRST COASTER' which was/is going at the back of farm, Shrek would have been a good theme but if you know it's a 4d cinema...
Yeah, I guess I'm gonna bite... do tell us more about this? Do you work at the park?

Yep, we need more information. And with rumours that The Beastie is going I suppose this is reasonable, but it's not really for the families, more for the younger generation.

One reason the park might have delayed the marketing this year is because of Morwennas departure. According to the emial just posted by Chris (other topic), it is her last day and so next year’s team probably haven’t had enough time to start next year rolling. Remember that the identity of Th13teen was not revealed until late 2009, with most of that years adverts just announcing the building site would be a new coaster. Once the changed marketing team have settled in the new attraction will be formally announced.

Morwenna and her team would have been working on Thirteen until April, then there were the 30th birthday and Pink concerts and after that there has/will be Scarefest, Christmas and the Fireworks. Amongst all of that they would have been planning for Shrek.
It has been a very busy season for the marketing team, I'm not surprised they haven't got any advertising out yet. Also, the new head of marketing will have their own ideas about how Shrek should be marketed.
Alton Towers usually announce their attractions after the season has ended and we are well into closed season.

In this day and age, you could probably keep stum until a month before opening, hammer the social networking sites and still get a bumper turn out.
To be fair its very fare midrange and smaller attractions get advertised the year before the opening. With charlie and mutiny bay i;m fairly sure advertising didnt really heat up until february half term.
Its usually only the Big projects like SW's that get such a long campaign.
