Hey - I went to the towers on wednesdy and many surveyors were taking measurements of the area down near the end of Rita... Just wondering if this could mean something :)

Interesting, did you manage to snap any photos?

Do you mean the area where Ugswinger used to be, the circular clearing with tables and chairs in it?

This is getting exciting, The Dark Forest needs a Dark Ride to acompany TH13TEEN. Would also like some photos if you have them :hsmug:

By the sounds of it, I think you're refering to where UG-Swinger used to be, before it got moved to CCL.

I hope this means something. The Dark Forest needs a good support ride to justify itself as its own 'land'. I have not been in the Dark Forest yet, but judging from last year's Ug Land, there is definitely something important missing in the swinger's old spot.

Maybe they are looking at SW7 wrapping around Th13teen and Rita.

Hopefully a new flat could be on the cards for next year? Dark Forest really needs something else worth going there for, a family thrill flat could be a good thing to get a bit more life into the area.

I'm sorry but i couldnt get any snaps. But they were setting up these surveryor cameras with a group of men pointing towards soakasaurus (cant remember what it got reneamed to for 2010) and where ug swinger used to be. They were positioned next to the rita station before moving down near the trees ;)

Interesting, I'd have thought next years attraction would have already been decided, unless this is for a future attraction or just general surveying, but I suppose there's still time for next year, or the year after.
MattH

apparently, AT have already decided on a new ride, according to admin *cough* CHRIS *cough*, but i think a new ride within the dark forest would be very viable right about now, all being kept under wraps though, for now :hgrin:

It's a shame you don't have any pictures, but you can't always take pictures at the right time :herrrm:

Anyway, would love a new family flat for next year or the future, hopefully it will have a suprise element and the same depth that Hex had.

It's going to be a flat, not a huge dark ride masterpiece in a real setting and a real (sort of) story :hlol:

It'll do the normal flat thing of throwing you around, spinning, inverting, making you sick, whatever, with some Dark Forest-y theming, they don't have millions of pounds, an old legend and a gothic house to play with this time :hlol:

Perhaps a new Disko would be nice for this section, or even a creepy Ferris wheel. The park needs a wheel.
Rita is my mum!

Hmmm, I was thinking a Disko. Maybe they could re-theme Enterprise put it in the Dark Forest and add another flat too X-Sector. I'm sure X-Sector will get a re-furb soon.

Im confused from some of the posts above? So is there going to be a new flat in DF for next season? :?

And about the Ferris wheel I dont think theres any need for one as you have to have a view obviously and it means you'd only be over looking Dark Forest and behind the scenes of it aswell as that height restrictions again.

Dark Forest will get a flat ride at some point in the near future. There was several included in the different concepts for the area which were flying around during the early stages of Thirteens development - so it's likely included in a 'mini master plan' for the Dark Forest area.

On the topic of a wheel. This isn't really something I'd like to see at Alton Towers, plus I don't think it would be too popular, unless it was a 'observation wheel' in the gardens area. Thorpe Park installed one around 2003?, but it lasted all of about two years before quickly being moved to Chessington. A small kiddie one may work in Cloud Cuckoo Land though.

I'd simply put in something along these lines, (without the tacky music obviously!), and have a 'whomping willow' styling to it...

I think this style of ride would do really well in the Dark Forest, aslong as it was themed accordingly! Eating up the queues for the surrounding rides Rita, and inparticular Th13teen (being the newest edition to the park.)

I agree with the idea for a Disko, they're not particularly intense, so would make quite a good family ride for the Dark Forest next to Th13teen. Also, I think they also have a 1.2m height restriction.

Yeah, they do have a 1.2m height restriction, but I don't think that would be the right move for the Dark Forest. I think something else would work better. I love Slappy McGuire's suggestion. That seems to work really well, it's a good strong suggestion and would probably suit the area really well, the only issue I have is that the height restriction would probably be too high for it to be the 'Family Addition' that we're most likely to be getting.

I happen to think that a Zamperla Barnyard themed to the forest taking over a small shack or building in the woods would be much more suited, it'd have a lower height restriction, it'd help complete the area more and would just be a nice addition, and they have a relationship with Zamperla after Heave Ho. It's a possibility.

I wouldn't be surprised if the "new attraction" is so "family" that it doesn't even move. A walk through or a show or something. (Haunted Hollow 2, anyone?)
I still think a Huss Jump 2 would be ideal, but one of those Spiderman Jump thingies could fit the theme quite well.

^^ After Kobra's trouble, I would definitely prefer to not have a Zamperla...
If you go down to the Towers today, you\'d better ride Th13teen. :P
