not sure if anyone has mentioned this already, but was at towers tuesday just gone... whilst there over heard 2 suits discussing something about spinball being rethemed as sonic spinball, as in sonic the hedgehog?!

supposedly all being in place for the new season, didnt catch anything more than that, but it wouldnt be the first ride at Towers to have a Sonic themed section to it!
Thats not exactly true...

Toyland Tours RIP had a Sonic themed section :D
That's what he said!
I like whoever mentioned the idea of the name just being shortened to "Spinball", since everyone calls it that anyway. Possibly with the sponsorship too. Interestingly if that does happen, the word "Whizzer" will desert two Merlin attractions in the same year.
That was me :P But Bck to the argument, people don't go to Spinball, if they want to go on say, Rita, then they wont go to Spinball first. Same with Nemesis etc.

I thought there was an idea to move spinball closer to the hotels as part of the ten year plan? I think this would be a far better idea, would be perfect next to the minigolf along with a few other small bits and pieces.

Why not move half of Spinball this year and the other half next year, if SW6 is getting in the way.
a new Mack YoungSTAR to replace the Beastie?
That is exactly what i said!

How about extending this new mack youngstar into or behind storybookland.

That would be good! :D

Secret submission lover.
Who doesn't love that comfy piece of chance?

I am a brass band nerd, deal with it!

Spinball isn't moving anywhere. I'd be surprised if it did!

I do think a rename and even a re-theme is in order though. The whole spinball theme is quite annoying and i don't particularly like it. But the ride is such great fun!

A retheme would just make the queues longer...
Moley

If they do retheme it I'll be glad to see the back of the queueline games. Don't get me wrong they were a nice touch but when you're already in a massive queue people standing playing on them for 5 minutes and holding it up further are quite annoying.

Rant over.

Yes the queue games were a good idea on paper but in practice they don't appear to have worked very well, either for the reason you said (people holding up the queue) or, more often, the buttons being stuck in and not working.

Possibly having more than just two of the games would have worked better, but then there wasn't the money spent on Spinball, or too much thought put into it.

Why do people care if people playing these games causes a gap in the queue? As long as it's not right at the front where it would affect throughput, it makes absolutely no difference to how quick you get on the thing. :?

I've never understood this slightly neurotic obsession...

No it doesn't make any difference but being in a moving queue is always better than a stopped one, whether in a car or on foot, just fools you into thinking you're getting somewhere quicker...

For me, the best part about a retheme would be new announcements.
No breakdown is more soul destroying than when you've just squeezed the spinball restraints that one extra click into your bladder just to hear 'woa ooooh' *ding ding ding* followed by that irritatingly smug man wailing a generic technical difficulties announcement at you.

But that's just my opinion :)

I think the ride should go with over head restraints or lap bars on mumbo jumbo at flamingoland. The existing ones are terrible.

Nope, because that would mean they'd have bad throughput (restraints have to be opened with air pumps), plus the mumbo jumbo ones are known for popping up.

suppose we'll have to wait and see!

I think people will be more bothered about a new ride than the fate of an old one, no matter what AT say.

spinball should be called the spin of doom and be put in gloomy wood as there is nothing in gloomy wood, apart from duel. and they should get rid of adventure land all together. the ride should have a dark evil side to it and seem really scary like duel.

Wouldn't be possible they are S&S Power patented restraints. :D
AstroDan

Over head restraints, on Spinball Whizzer?
