Reading some of the very interesting posts on here, i keep seeing "coaster corner" popping up. Now i understand that this is an old disused area of the park. But where is it and does anyone have any pictures of what it looks like now. Thank-you

I think coaster corner was where the mouse coaster was and it was located behind cloud cuckoo land near the flag tower. its entrance i think used to be near where twirling toadstool is now. hope this helps :)

I believe the Coaster Corner would now be behind Cloud Cucko Land but i believe it is now being used for Merlin Studios where they create all the lovely Merlin Themeing.

If you look on the plans in the 10 year plan thred, coaster corner is were the blue possible coster is marked behind Cloud Coucko Land.

The old pathways are still in place with a few sheds dotted around which I belive Thrilljunkie is right that its used for Melin Studios. The area has been used as storage for some time as well.

There is a good view of it if you look on Do Look Down in the History section. If you look at the most recent view showing the towers and CCL.

I think they should reopen coaster corner, expand X Sector a little and create an adjoining pathway between them.

What was the real reason for closing it in the first place?

As usual, I think it was closed due to locals moaning about noise

Well I'd heard that but didn't it close long before the noise issues came about?

They had problems with the rides that were there like the Alton Mouse as it was very noisy, and closest too Farley and Alton

You can actually go and see it in the flesh if you want, just hop onto twirling toadstools, you can see quite a bit of Coaster Corner

It's on the right hand side of this image:

From, erm, Towers Times

You can see some grass by a tower, and a bit of rough looking ground. This is all coaster corner from the back of CCL around here.

I don't know if the Merlin Studios were built on Coaster Corner or were always there?

If I remember correctly, this used to be the coach or car park back in the day :)

The problem with it (and you can see from this photo quite clearly) is that the valley falls sharply from this area. So any ride built there has the noise carry easily down to Alton village as there are less trees to absorb the sounds. I still find it hard to believe they'll re-use this area, but maybe they have clever tricks and cunning plans up their (wizards) sleeves :)

Coaster corner from the top of the flag towers

heres a photo i took a couple of years ago of coaster corner.

the green fenced area at the bottom of the flag tower is the ride area of the mouse. and there is still some infrastructure in placeform the old area. with a couple of queue line fences and decorative fenses around trees still in place. as well as at least one food outlet still in situ.

If we just, for example, fire bomb the villages nearby, then more rides could be built! :D
For crying out loud, DO NOT take that seriously!

Its a shame they cant open it back up, the attractions don't need to be rollercoasters but also the Flag Tower itself isn't getting the attention it deserves. I for one haven't ever seen it in person after all the years I've been going to Alton Towers.

Whilst the 4 man bob rollercoaster (http://www.towerstimes.co.uk/history/ol ... manbob.htm had been in that area for some years, when John Broome put the Mouse http://www.towerstimes.co.uk/history/ol ... nmouse.htm and the Beast http://www.towerstimes.co.uk/history/ol ... nbeast.htm by the Flag Tower he did it without planning permission, and retrospectively applied for it without success. The Beast was then moved to the site that Air now occupies, and the Mouse sold to a Theme Park in Brasil.

It's worth saying that this was the busiest area of the park with the three coasters being so close together. Don't forget, that there was only 3 other coaster in the park; corkscrew (which got 2hr+ queues) which was close by, the black hole (which got 3+ hour queues) and the Thunder Looper which was on it's own, and only reachable by the one year old Sky ride or by a walk through the gardens.

Is there any more info on this area? I've never seen it before (heard it meantioned and never really knew about it). It was before my time anyway, and never remember seeing it?

So it is an extra part of the park which had three roller coasters but was closed due to the noise, and hasn't been opened since? Any plans on re-opening it in future, even with any indoor rides?

And the flag tower, any more stuff with that? Never seen it either, I don't believe - it is separate from the towers?

I feel guilty for not knowing about it...

The area used to run directly on from the back of what is now Cloud Cuckoo Land.

There's a boarded off area between the CCL theatre and the Mushroom thing. This used to be the entrance to Coaster Corner. The area extended from there, and hooked right behind the theatre and street area. There's also a bit to the left I think too.

So it's just part of the park that didn't have to be shut down, but it was just used for something else (Tussauds studio is there now I believe). It's a fair old bit of land too. There are rumours of the area reopening in the future, possibly with another coaster!

Dont forget that the Mini Apple was also in this area making 4 coasters (including the 4 man bob). But then again, thinking about it, wasnt 4 man bob officially in Talbot Street?

Anyway heres a few of my old pics. Previously posted on ukrides...

Mouse. 4 man bob was on the right and slightly behind this location, Beast to the left and Mini Apple on the left also.

Coaster Corner wasn't an individual area, more of a nickname for a part of Talbot Street.

The area now widely called Coaster Corner actually contained a whole second area as well as the bit which had the Mouse Beast and Bob in. The fence surrounding Twirling Toadstool actually more or less follows the line of the entrance to Adventureland 4-11.

Adventureland 4-11 took up the area alongside CATCF (back then Around the World in 80 Days) And contained a fair few ride, including the Astroglide (giant slide) Mini Apple Coaster, Adventure Railway and Baby Flug (in more recent time known as the Bouncing Bugs)
Edwardo..... move me!

 hehe... "Astroglide"!
