Coaster Corner was doomed from March 2nd, 1989.

On that day, Staffordshire council ruled that The Beast and Alton Mouse would have to be removed from the area by the end of 1991. The Beast had expired planning permission while the Mouse had none at all. This practically ruined Coaster Corner as a major thrill area of the park.

I drove through coaster corner in one of my friends cousins cars, who works there, and you really cannot see any reminants of the old area, and if im brutaly honest, the area looks a complete tip. However, it is very interesting though, like there is the old giant teapot from the middle of the teacup ride. I really wish Alton Towers would open the area back up, just so we could go and have a look round, cos i find it very interesting indeed.

The incident at the start of the 1991 season didn't help much either.

I really think that AT need to bring back and use coaster corner soon because it is a generally good sized area that could be themed well and could hold a good rollercoaster and a good flat with some good shops. This part of the park I have never seen so I would like it if AT were able to use it again.

It does look quite a mess and is rather overgrown. Is this just used for storage now then? because I feel that it is just a waste or a good area.

I have just been thinking about the area of coaster corner and how it is a good area that I hope AT will use during the 10 year development. The reason is that it is a good sized area that could hold a good coaster and a good couple of flats. Although I don't think that this area is big enough for the much talked about woodie, I would say that a Gerstlauer could be a possible fit for the area especially when the area is heavily populated with trees. I am hoping AT use this to their best advantage and try to use this area because it is probably the only available area that can be easily built on left in the park.

So, what would your ideas be for coaster corner, do some little plans etc, just to know what you think AT could do with the area!   :D

I drove through there the other day in one of the employees cars, who was giving me a lift home, and to be honest, it really didnt look that big, but saying that i didnt see it all i suppose.

Personally, i would love to see the area opened back up, however i highly doubt there would ever be coasters in there again, due to its proximity to alton and people would complain about noise.

Im thinking possibly an extension of ccl, or making it like a secret hideaway area, with a few flats and secret paths and stuff like that.

Basically it was behind the main bulk of Cloud Cuckoo Land click here. Also, this is the location where the Secret Weapon delivery was filmed.
Where the magic never ends.

The problem is noise and visibility. It is very close to the neighbours, the flag tower and the infamous Iron Age fort that nearly stopped Thirteen.

That said modern coasters are quieter than in the 80s and Alton are masters of making brillaint rides with little hight available, so who knows, other than the park. I don't think it was on the 10 year plan, but neither was X-Sector, and the have said they are going to build on the Black Hole sight soon, so we will have to wait and see, but I'm not holding my breath.

This is a kind of geeky suggestion and i'm not sure Alton would ever go for it as it would probably only appeal to the AT enthusiasts such as ourselves! I would love it if Alton turned coaster corner into some kind of museum for old attractions etc with pictures/film footage etc maybe they could even put memorabilia in there such as one of the old swan boats etc. Like I said though enough people wouldn't be interested as most people just go purely for the rides, they don't care about the history as much as us TTFers

I think that would be good though, I could just see it now with a Wardley shrine, facts all over the walls, the future plans etc, things like the old model of Air, Old plans for rides etc.

Hey all.

I've merged the Two Coaster Corner topics together into this one. Although the one in ATF was discussing the Future of Coaster Corner it was also attracting discussion about the history of the area.
I think it would be easier all round to discuss it in the same place, here in Archive.
If any concrete plans come forward for the area then of course we will discuss them over in the Alton Towers Future Forums.

Cheers. :)

Yeah something like that would be good, or it could be used as a bbq area in the summer? Don't know really just trying to think of things is quite hard  or does the tavern in Mutiny bay do bbq's?

Several years after this topic was last used I thought it was worth trying to restart this discussion.

There are various suggested reasons as to why Coaster Corner was closed, the main two being the issues with some of the rides and the continual noise issues. Therefore I think it has great potential as a mass indoor ride area to reduce noise and keep height and visibility to a minimum.

The entrances consist of the old main entrance near the Twirling Toadstool, and also a small path which enters it at the opposite end from in between x-sector and the front face of the towers. I was thinking that the area could be themed as an old medieval town, with large medieval building façades housing indoor rides. It would be a spooky themed area following on from the Hex Chained Oak story. The main theming feature could be a huge Chained Oak tree near the flag tower (even with the signs of the missing branch used in Hex's theming).

The buildings could look abandoned after 'the earl bought the curse back to the towers'. I know there is already the gloomy wood and dark forest with similar themes, however if the planned new entrance goes ahead, Duel and the gloomy wood area could very well be removed, and this new area could merge across to dark forest making one large spooky themed area along the back of the park.

The main rides could be a large indoor water ride, similar to a smaller version of BPB's Valhalla, but with relevant theming. Also, a indoor walk though maze, or a potential site for Merlin to add a Dungeons attraction. One or maybe 2 small flats could be added too. The medieval street could house shops and food places and would tie in with the back of the towers building well. There is more space than you think, especially when all the old storage is removed and space used right up to the back of the Cloud Cukoo land buildings. there might even be room for a small haunted house to replace duel.

future - as stated, it could merge across the courtyard where Charlie currently is over towards dark forest is. The tie in story being that the strange goings on in the nearby forest as a result of the curse at the towers and the chained oak.
the Cloud Cuckoo land rides would feel very out of place, however with the addition of cbeebies land, CCL could soon start to be reduced anyway. CCL, although obviously themed for children, already has the 'street' feeling, which could easily be adapted to be a later addition to the spooky medieval town area.

This would mean that as you approach the towers and walk through the archway towards th hex entrance, the whole area could be a spooky themed area, tieing hex, thirteen and the new area all together.

i have tried to add a plan below, although not sure how to add pics so might not work.

So.... what do you think? could it be used? would the theming work?

Was just looking on Google Maps at Coaster Corner.
Am I right in thinking this is part of the Black Hole tent?

No, I don't think so, although I could be wrong. To my knowledge all of the black hole tent was removed ahead of The Smiler's construction, and I can't recall any part of the tent looking like that.
