Iceblast is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to big for that area. For a decent launched tower, you need in excess of 120ft. Towers would never get permission for such a ride to be made.
That's a shame, I would love to see a ride like that at the towers.

They could always turn the tent into an attraction like Skull Kingdom or Terror In Church Street in Florida. (A walk around attraction where people jump out at you to scare you) Im not sure that would work at Towers though.

I do agree though they need to do something with the site, every time I see the lack of Black Hole, it makes me a sad sad bunny rabbit.

I personally think they should bring back good old Black Hole! Maybe it could be changed slightly (made more interesting and exciting with new technology), but Black Hole was a wonderful ride for many ages! The first time you ride it gives you the giddy feeling of not knowing what you are queing up for!

Bring back Black Hole!

I would like to see Black Hole to become another dark coaster, with the same brand. The amount of people I talk to that are not enthusiasts say that they love Black Hole. When I tell them its gone they are gutted. As Alton like to play with different innovations and experiences, they are missing the pitch black coaster. I know its not the latest in coaster technology, but it does make a fantastic ride. It means a relatively cheep coaster can be built and it will be enhanced by the fact you will not be able to see where you are going.

I think a drop tower would work if done right. A similar idea cropped up on here a while ago, listen if you will:

The tent in around 30-40 foot high, not enough for a drop tower, but if it is extended DOWN into the ground to about 100-130 foot (I know it would be expensive), a good ride can be made.

Riders enter into the tent as normal, but in the queue they are split into 4 groups. The reason is there are 4 towers with 10 seats each, all separated by a soundproof black wall, with the op cabin in the centre at ground the original ground level. The cabin is a circle which is split in four by the walls.

In tens, riders enter the ride area, which is shielded from view in the queue and take a seat on one of the seats, which is where the first twist comes in. The seats are sperate from each other and face IN, so riders see each other. When everyone is in, the light go out and The Lord Of Darkness from the Oblivion video's explain the concept, that this is a psychological experiment designed to investigate fear and anxienty, similar to the idea of Oblivion. At the top, he appears in video screens speaking this, maybe with effects like the Oblivion videos (logos, flashing images...) At the top, unseen by the riders, the floor disappears so riders will now fall over 100 foot. A dim light lights the faces of the riders, when any random seat drops without warning. A short pause, then another. Another pause before another drop, until there are two left, a longer wait, until one drops, with flashes of light, and with hardly any wait, the final one drops. When all the seats are at the bottom, the seats are launched to about half way up the above ground level part of the tower, while the floor returns and the seats can be returned to the start point to be unloaded and reloaded.

The whole thing will take no longer than about 2 mins, and by using 4 towers (it may be a squeeze, reduce to two or three towers depending on room, if there is only room for one, this idea wouldn't really work unless there were more seats, which could be an option, but I prefer less seats, makes the feeling of isolation and fear higher), the capacity will increase four-fold over one tower, meaning 40 riders per cycle, 2 mins per cycle means 30 cycles per hour, 30 cycles of 40 people gives a capacity of 1200 riders per hour, hopefully.

The name Black Hole would stay, and what ever happens, I hope AT keep it.

I can see a spinner fit in there as well, and an idea I have is a launched spinner. The cars are launched (not too fast) into a vertical turn like the one one Spinball, where the spinning unlocks and the ride goes around in a tight, unique layout with space theming or Oblivion style theming.

What do you think?

its a good idea but a 100+ft hole would cost imense!
the park needs to go with a coaster for that area for sure as i think
the ride has enough flats for the moment.

who knows the existing tent may get scrapped or it could be relocated
in the park for other uses?

i would like the park to build a new enclosed sctructre. lots of corrugated
iron and exposed supports with space markings would give a more futuristic approach.
they could build it to the same height of the dome on the current tent and have it
the same height across the location and why not have the queue inside the building
and have bits that come out at the side on different levels to give it a space station type
effect?

the park has a launched coaster so we wont get one of them. it will probably be another worlds
first........

EDIT: the theme im talking about is like the inside of the queueline/station on the space invader at bpb.

Worlds first launched spinning coaster
I don't think it will be, just a made up idea that I think would be good. Your idea is also very good, but X-Sector is more sinister experiment than space exploration.

lol a launched spinner would make you dizzy as hell lol

i really get puzzled as to what type of coaster should go there.
its gotta be compact and exciting and i id like a custom design not off the shelf.

there is quite a lot of space to play with and to get the best of it a small compact coaster
would be the best option to go for i think. what about the worlds first multi directional coaster?
you get in a 4 seater car at the station, it then enters a turn table room with 3 different routes to take and you get to vote? im sure 3 different layouts could be built together in such a small area using small track like found on spinball etc.........

What about a Pandora's Box? It should fit and is supposedly on the up in terms of popularity.

There's an Intamin Spinner in Scandanavia that is practially launched. Apparently it gives a very rough ride and is ridculously intense.

So was there any truth in the vido that Shawn Sanbrooke put up and said there will be a new coaster in the black hole tent for the 2010 season?

Im not sure if there was any validity in the information he was given. I would love to see a new coaster in the tent for 2010, but I can't see it happening. They have removed all the hording around the old ride exit this year and I would have thought that this would have stayed in place if they were to build something in the tent this year. The only other option would be if the built an off the shelf coaster or a travelling coaster to get ready in a short amount of time.

There is a drop tower called Xtremis. It's located at the London Dungeon. It is only around 25-30 ft tall. Due to its height people often think "Meh its tiny  . Wont be much of a thrill". BUT the speed it drops at is unexpected. It isn't ultra fast but quick, I'd say it's around 15-20 Mph. Alton can easily fit one or even two inside the Black Hole tent as Xtremis is also enclosed. It's not an extreme thrill like Detonator at thorpe which can be good for the towers since they're family friendly so there is no reason for them not to build one.

I think a Black Hole ride would have to be something about digging down towards Oblivion again. So for instance, similar crafts to Journey to the Centre of the Earth at DisneySea could be used.

Obviously thats a massive ride, but if it was properly enclosed, it could work well.

Why not turn it into a "Test Zone" with lots of rides in it, including a robot arm, simulator, an aeroplane simulator etc. Some vertical drop slides would be good. It would suit the style of the X Sector because its themed around a test zone.

The theme colours could be black and yellow, and it would be even better if they projected music videos onto the walls of it while playing the latest pop hits!

It would be REALY popular, what do u think?

Well, that really couldn't of been serious, could it? I mean, pop music in a government/military facility? Aerolanes? Slides? What is this nightmare you are describing? At least X-Sector only needs two new rides and a clean up now, if that was what it became...ergh...

Have to agree with Blaze here. Imagine walking into a sinister secret facility themed area only to hear pop music . Thorpe are doing it at the moment and it really does wreck the atmosphere, especially if it were to be done at a world class theme park like Alton Towers in an area themed to what's meant to be a sinister location, not a teenage girls disco [-X ! A vertical drop slide is more suited for the water park but it would defeat the purpose of Oblivion, they don't need any more vertical rides! However, the idea of the yellow and black colour scheme could work well especially with X -Sector's industrial/secret facility theme. Robo arms would be good since they could fit in with the theme, but would also stand out in Dark Forest.

Anyway I think that the Black Hole tent should be used for a new coaster, we know that the original Black Hole won't return, especially with it's new red and blue colour. A Mack e-Motion coaster or Young star coaster would be good.

Yes I suppose I do agree with you all on that point, although I do think it would be rather silly if a new roller coaster was to be put it there, because it would have to be another Jet-Star 2. The size of the Black Hole tent is especially made to fit a Jet Star 2. It would be like making do if another different roller coaster was put in there.

I still think the idea of a "Test Zone" would be a good idea. Obviously not with the music vids and vertical drop slides. But everything else would be great! :D

For my money it has to be a coaster in there. So many people (including me) have memories of going in that tent nervous, not knowing what it was, however coming out blown away after riding it! If Alton Towers put a few slides or a flat in there tomorrow, would we really be seeing the same nostalgia in 25 years time? I think it's so sad when I hear people say "whats in that tent" as there is so much potential for it. Was the tent built to match the shape of the ride?
