The Sonic game tune has to be used if this is true
I think they should play all the songs from the memorable Sonic titles, like Sonic 1, 2 and 3 (Mega Drive/Genesis), Sonic Heros (PS2, XBOX), Sonic Adventures (Dreamcast). But Green Hill Zone, Starlight Zone, Casino Nights Zone, and the Sonic Heros theme song should definatly make an appearance.

That's one department Sega never fail in. Music.

Don't forget the Sonic 2 Special Stage theme:

As a lifelong fan of Sonic, I'm thrilled at the prospect of this retheme. If you know your Sonic games, then the ideas you could come up with for theming elements are staggering. Rings, star posts, Chaos Emeralds, a few badniks, monitors, it's endless.

And definitely call the ride Sonic Spinball. It's practically asking for it.

Fantastic news!

I sincerely hope this turns out to be true! I loved Sonic as a kid and the thought of seeing him at Alton Towers next season is one that excites me!

Whilst I'm not the biggest fan of rides that take theme from the work of someone else, I'm sure I can make exception to this when you consider Spinball Whizzer wasn't exactly the greatest idea either.

I just the hope the park don't go overboard with gold rings should they happen otherwise it could look a little messy!

And before I forget, someone on The Ride Guide suggested a video game themed rollercoaster and used Sonic as the topic title a couple of weeks back! What are the chances?!

I will frazzle if I hear an 8 Bit Sonic Theme at Alton Towers. How EPIC!

Nah get the 16-Bit MegaDrive themes, the 8-Bit Master System ones sound dull in comparison.

See this is what I don't get. Are Sega putting a new Sonic Spinball game into production? It just seems odd to use the name of a 90's game, that wasn't even a good seller in comparison to other Sonic titles. But then again if the name fits who gives a damn.

Anybody think that the melody on that track actually has a sniff of similarity to the main melody from Towers Street, Katanga, Monorails, etc? Just a little thing I picked up on :D

Yeah, and when it first breaks, the Game Over music from the first game plays, and anouncment comes over. Then when it's fixed the main theme plays with another anouncment.

They near enough all did this on MegaDrive. The one in the first game sounded better, cause the song transition wasn't quite as obvious. I agree that they should use this, but combine it with the songs from the first game too.

OH MY GOD! I've only just read about all the Sonic speculation, and I'm so hoping that this is going to be true! Sonic and Mario have made a big comeback since the release of the Nintendo Wii/DS, so this is perfect for Alton Towers Resort. It definately fits in with a more 'resorty' image that they're going for, and is hugely American!

I always think there's abit of a buzz around both Chessington and Alton's spinning coasters, but Alton's atmosphere will just increase ten-fold with a Sonic retheme, and retro SEGA music playing.. I'm with Dave though - The retro SEGA sting should be played as the car leaves the station; just like what you would experience when you started a game on the old SEGA consoles! :D

I love it! I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that it's true, it's all very exciting!

Thats it. But that is playing from a PC or newer console port of the game.

- The Original Sonic theme, like on Toyland Tours would be great! - not forgetting the sound when Sonic collects the golden rings.

However, one thinks if this is to go ahead, they'll probably tie it in with the Pinball game! pfffttt :x

Being a massive fan of the original Sonic games, I can only hope this goes ahead.
Sonic Spinball was also the first game I ever owned, and still one of my favourites. So to have this at Alton Towers would be amazing! :D

If it's getting the name Sonic Spinball then it is near certain they will tie it in with the pinball game.

Well here is the confirmation Spinball is to be rethemed for next season!

Looking from Mutiny Bay the ride looks its usual colours

A quick peek through the Squirrel Nutty station reveals a paritally painted support

A view from the Squirrel Nutty Ride heading towards Spinball

Further round we see more supports in the dark blue colour and all the Spinball theming still in place

Finally an overview of the site showing the paint in progress.Image

The new blue certainly looks better. One thing I did notice is that the Spinball Whizzer signs appear to remain. I would of thought that they would be down by now, and the new ones on site.
