Ooooh an interesting thought there Three Flags! To be honest I posted that quite a while ago, totally forgot about it and failed to link the two. Though it was filmed during the open season, when Spinball was exactly as it has been since 2004. If it was for new Spinball would they need the ride to be altered to film a commercial? If not then would it need to be filmed in the park at all?

As I said in that thread, it sounded more like they were casting during the open season. The advert, if it is for 'Sonic Spinball', probably hasn't been filmed yet.

I feel it's too soon to get excited about yet another investment for 2010 anyway. While I agree it's entirely possible, there is no solid evidence to suggest it will happen...People may be left dissapointed. However, it somehow feels far more likely, all of a sudden, than it did just yesterday!

I'll stay open minded but expect nothing :)

I dont care as long as I get the vintage "SEGA" voice over after the ride instead of "Wahoo what a ride!"

From Towers Times News, today:
Speculated Sonic Spinball
Although we are unable to confirm a re-theme for Spinball Whizzer in the 2010 season, Towers Times understands - thanks to a visiting forum member - that the ride supports have been repainted to a dark blue colour, fuelling recent speculation that the ride is set to be re-themed.

Rumours of a Spinball re-theme first surfaced some weeks ago, after the European Coaster Club Mailing List claimed the ride was set for a re-theme. Now, following claims made by several posters on a variety of internet forums, the ride could be set for a Sonic the Hedghog theme in 2010. The colour changes for the ride supports appear to suit Sonic's colour.

We will bring you more news as we get it but, as it stands, the 2010 season looks set to be even bigger with this news!

Please visit TowersTimes Forum for the latest discussion on the Spinball re-theme and all the other changes for next season.

Looks like if this Spinball re-theme does go ahead, it will all be complete by February 1/2 term. What a early treat that would be?!
For 2010:

Alton Towers:
  • Thir13teen - £15 Million Intamin Psychocoaster
    Dark Forest - Rethemed
    Rita: ? - Rethemed
    Sonic Spinball - Rethemed
    Skyride - Rebuild
    Corkscrews on Main entrance
Thorpe Park:
  • Saw: Alive! Maze
Chessington World of Adventures:
  • Wild Asia - Rethemed
    KOBRA - Zamperla Disk'O
    Re-themed Dodgems
    Re-themed Chair-a-swingers
    Re-themed Mad House
    Re-themed Crazy Bus
To me, it does seem that Thorpe Park doesn't really try hard unless it has to
Thorpe just spent £13.5 million on SAW: The Ride...

Plus Colossus is rumored to be getting a re-paint

Not to mention how fast Thorpe has grown in terms of coasters in comparison to Alton so no wonder Thorpe are taking 2010 easy...

Could a SONIC retheme work for Spinball?
No.

I can see it working, I will go on Photoshop now to try and do some editing to show it will!

Why wouldn't it work?

Its more of a theme than the ride currently has and its something else interesting for 2010.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. I think it's great that Spinball might be having a retheme, at least it'll spruce up the ride and give it a actual theme. I hope this also means a re-themed Adventure Land, how amazing would that be?

My only worry is that Alton would market the ride as 'New for 2010', this would obviously cause more people wanting to ride it, the queue for Spinball is bad enough at the moment, I'd dread to think what it would be like after a re-theme.

But if this news is true, along with SW6 and the Corkscrews then 2010 is set to be a fantastic year of additions at Alton.

:)

So as promised here it is, not the best bit of photo editing I've ever done but it should do the job, what do you think of it?

That's really good Elliot! Gives us an idea of what it may be like. I hope that it is more than just a paint job though - the area to me has always been a bit of a let down.

Would have been cool if the supports were light and dark brown checks and the track was green in honour of Green Hill Zone.

Well it would be really hard to do all the theming for the ride on Photoshop in a couple of hours, and I only wanted to let people have a look and what I think it could end up like, I'm glad that your happy with it.

I didn't mean in your photoshop illustration I just meant in reality that I hope they don't just give it a paintjob. :D

I don't expect a full artist's impression from you Elliot. :)

Yeah, I know :) it came out better than I thought it would, also I hope Alton can make this a real good ride now, but the problem with theming rides like this are that with rides like Saw you can almost guaranty where the rider will be looking where as with Spinball it is so hard to determine where the theming could be to really effect the whole experience of the ride.
