I don't think they will retheme it this season mainly because of Thirteen/Rita retheme/Corkscrews. Do you not think its a lot to fit in one closed season let alone spinballs retheme?

just a thought...

I havn't heard anything specific, however, there has been rumblings about this and it has gone on for a good two months now, and although this is all rumour i am inclined to believe it.

Ok, a bit of actual info.

The deal was literally signed about a week ago. As far as I'm aware it will be renamed: Sonic Spinball. No details on what exactly they will do, I imagine new signage, audio and maybe a paint job.

Also as part of the deal will be a new themed hotel room, again not sure which hotel but I imagine Splash.

Expect more news when it's available.
Where did you get this info from?
Where? He is thee Sonic The Headhog of course! :D On the topic, I really don't know what to believe now. It just seems all to much to do in one of season as in the way of time and cost.
Yesterday\'s the past, tomorrow\'s the future, but today is a gift. That\'s why it\'s called the present.

It is Alton's 30th Birthday. They clearly want to go all out. The idea of having Thirteen, a re-themed Rita, re-themed Spinball, new Skyride station and Corkscrew artwork is mouthwatering to be honest.

Don't rule anything out though. During the early years of the Tussauds area, we had Nemesis & Toyland Tours in 1994. 1992 we had The Haunted House, Mine Train, as well as Gloomy Wood.

With re-theming Spinball, we then have an attraction which can be marketed as 'New' and also something that is aimed at the families and the younger end of the market. All for very little cost, with it being sponsored.

According to a reliable member on Southparks, Spinball's supports have now been painted dark blue.

But what about the AIR tunnel? Isn't that the most notorious unfinished Tussauds job of all?

Well isn't this all very exciting! If the supports have been painted dark blue, then I reckon the track will remain red, although I would like to see it re-painted also to look all shiny and new! My personal opinion on the matter regarding the re-theme is that it will be Sonic, although I would have preferred a Mario theme!

Really can't wait for next season now, there's so much to look forward to!

Yes - but that won't deliver any tangible benefit. The Air tunnel is a joke, though - yes.

I would have preferred red supports and a dark blue track (if indeed this is going to be a sonic theme) Just so there is a bigger contrast from the current colours.

I'd imagine the track would be re-painted red, as its currently pink in places.

I'll expect some new theming in the station, new signage, new audio and new stickers on the cars.
Audio effects such as "Woo Hoo, what a ride!" and "Hold on tight, here we gooooooo" can easily be replaced by Sonic saying something better.

Alton Towers is going all out next year!
How about Sonic('s?) Spinball for the name?
;)

Well what fabulous news! It seems to be absolutely rolling in at the moment. Even if Thirteen isn't on a par with Nemmy and Blivvy, is this possibly the best ever set of closed season changes to the park?

I presume the track will stay red. Would have made more sense to paint the cars blue, like Sonic, I dunno. I hope that means we see individual characters on each car! I'd love a little pink Amy car. Hopefully we can put the last 5 years out of our minds and next year ride Rita and Spinball as they SHOULD always have been! :D
AstroDan

I still don't think the theming on either coaster is going to be particularly "great" compared to say, Thirteen, Nemesis etc. but hopefully the rides, moreover Rita, will fit in better and look better.

:)

Lush stuff! Absolutely love Sonic! Will be a great change, hoping the queue audio will be a mix of the tunes especially this retro tune -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpU5640iE5k <- that was the highlight of my younger years!

Hope to see more on the themeing side though and not just a cheap tack job.

Wow. If this is true, which I'm increasingly coming to believe it might be, I am shocked. A brand new £15 million coaster, 2 re-themed attractions which have always been an annoyance to the enthusiast community AND the corkscrews. Oh you do spoil us Alton :D

Only thing is, with such a recognisable character and reputable franchise, surely Adventure Land as a whole has to be re-vamped? And I fail to see how something as knackered (yet lovable) as the Beastie can be made to fit in. Relocation of the Beastie anyone?

I just don't know! It's all too much to take in. :joy:
For some things there is no rational explanation. There is no way out. There is no happy ending to this story. Welcome to the unknown. Welcome to eternal darkness.

For 2010:

Alton Towers:
  • Thir13teen - £15 Million Intamin Psychocoaster
    Dark Forest - Rethemed
    Rita: ? - Rethemed
    Sonic Spinball - Rethemed
    Skyride - Rebuild
    Corkscrews on Main entrance
Thorpe Park:
  • Saw: Alive! Maze
Chessington World of Adventures:
  • Wild Asia - Rethemed
    KOBRA - Zamperla Disk'O
    Re-themed Dodgems
    Re-themed Chair-a-swingers
    Re-themed Mad House
    Re-themed Crazy Bus
To me, it does seem that Thorpe Park doesn't really try hard unless it has to

I'm really sorry but am I missing something here? The topic is stickied and the way people are talking makes this sound confirmed, however I can't see a single piece of evidence past a supposed support repaint :?

Where has this Sonic rumour risen from anyway? It sounds a hell of a lot better than current Spinball (which isn't hard) but i'm still skeptical.

If any coaster should have a sonic theme, it should be a ball coaster, because they're 'flat' and sonic only ever worked in 2D!

Hopefully it would be done to a good standard, I'm not too sure about the blue, but I'll reserve judgement until I see it. Would have been great to have had a green hill zone look to the ride though.

I'm still a little confused though, if the medium/long term plans are for relocation, why bother with a retheme - it would surely be better (well, cheaper) just to patch it up a bit until its ready to be moved, then do a full retheme?

Have to say that the level of investment this closed season is nothing short of amazing. Now we just need air's multi-story car park theme to be sorted out, and who knows, maybe they're doing that too - wouldn't take long to make a big difference to it.
Kaycee

Just struck me the difference between Alton Towers in 2010 for SW6 and the Alton Towers in 2002 for SW5.

The changes that have happened between the two Secret Weapons are great for the most part - and despite years of Thorpe Park getting the bulk of investment, and the frustrating times Towers fans have endured with smaller investments/family additions - when Towers open to the flood of guests next season keen to ride the new attraction, they've got a much better all-rounded park/resort than ever, it really will be something to be proud of. Maybe we will all be able to see the waiting between major investments has paid off, when we compare Towers to Thorpe.

It's going to looking great for its 30th birthday, especially when two of 'enthusiasts'' biggest bug-bears are RUMOURED to be getting re-themes.

Exciting times!

^^Yeah and just compare 2007 with the possible additions of 2010.

Could ''Sonic's Spinball'' be related to this advert I wonder :?:
