One of the best things about Alton Towers are the little touches that make the magic the little things what you just can't imagion Alton Towers without.

mine are

Squirrel Nutty ride
Its location  is what makes it so great, I love watching it go past as I'm sitting in the corner coffee bar on Tower Street and it is also a very good ride to go on to pass the time (if you have to wait for someone)

the AT Ducks
The AT ducks are by far one of the highlights of any visit to the park and are far better than any mascot that AT can come up with (exept the crazy grannies)

that one kiddie ride you love but won't admit to your friends
oh come on you know you have one.

what is yours?
I was going to have a pic of Hobs Pit but I forgot how to make pics show up :(

The Themes
Big parts of AT, but often overlooked by the public :(

Teacups (Marauders Mayhem)
I know that this comes under kids rides that is stated above, but unlike other parks, AT have actually done some theming.

The Talking Worm
You can't help but press that button when passing by to X-Sector

To me these are small things (apart from theming) that make a MASSIVE impact (for me, anyway )

The Talking Worm now is where the magic for me ends. I don't know if his been fixed since June but when I pressed the button you could see the parts that opened his mouth. Storybook land to me looks like it's on it's last legs.

For me since Merlin taken over all the magic has gone and I feel it's heading down the road to Drayton Manor Park.

I always go at Scarefest one of my highlights is entering the park, and watching the scarefest characters meeting guests from the window of the corner coffie bar!

Another highlight is riding the RMT in the usually dull and cloudy weather with a spooky chill in the air which really helps create a halloweenish apnosphere (especially at the far end of Katanga Canyon leading to gloomy wood)
I was going to have a pic of Hobs Pit but I forgot how to make pics show up :(

What really tops the magic off for me is the park keepers
Going around in there car blasting out music and having a dance can never help but put a smile on your face and a spring in your step. As soon as you seem them approaching you have to join in with them and it is always one of the main things I remember from my visits.
Another thing I love is the music as you enter katanga canyon, it is perfect and is so light heated. It just created a really magical atmosphere and fits in so well!

Nemesis. Nah jk, that'd be Ice age or Charlie and the Chocolate factory. Good times.

The staff, and little things.
Like the bathroom in The hotel, with the mirror, or the free coupons with your room, or the footprints and sandy carpet to the pool. Mainly the staff, although they seem a bit grumpy around the woodland walk area.

The ducks in x-sector
They are so fluffy and always want a donut :D
the footprints leading to splash landins and AT hotel from the monorail
Yeah. You know why! THEY ARE AWESOME!
The music
The theme songs for the attractions are amazing. :)
THE SWARM, oblivion,air,colossus.all epic.:D

Do coasters count? Because it's only them and the theming attached that I really go to the towers for :P
I'm not completely useless, I can be used as a bad example :P

Another thing that makes the magic for me is the overall dark and haunting apnosphere that is all over the park (aspecially in the more wooded areas where you can usually hear some ravens)

The park keepers,
The fantastic new band that play around the park who've been booked for the summer.
Visiting with people who agree to let me do all the stuff I've never done like yesterdays enormously thrilling CATCF ride :) *(As yesterday, that remark was part sarcasm, part truth ;) )
The new creative director really seems to be investing in the right places, baby steps but I think (hope) we'll continue to see improvements!

The Monorail

I love getting on The Monorail and heading to the park, seeing all the rides and coasters and getting that feeling of excitement in your stomach.

Towers Street

The excitement of walking (but usually running!) down Towers Street and hearing the music and looking at the towers in the early morning mist. I just love that.

Totally agree with both of these! :D  When we had a birthday trip to Alton Towers last year (my 30th... Ouch :P), my sister ended up inventing a dance to the Katanga Canyon music and we still ended up doing the moves again when we went back a couple of weeks ago.

The one thing that really did it for me recently was a visit I had with my two friends last year.

Three of us, friends since childhood - used to go with the school - now going down with our wifes / girlfriends in our 30's. All live apart so don't see each other much more than once a year if we're lucky.

One of the boys announces about a month before that he's gotten engaged - do we all want to meet up and stay at the AT Hotel to celebrate.

Looked it up online and they were doing a ridiculous deal whereby it was £100 a night with 2 park tickets included. Great value.

Decided to email guest services after we had booked to find out how much it would be to get a bottle of champagne in the newly engaged couple's room. They came back a day later and asked for their names so they could confirm what room they were in.  The champagne will be put in the room free of charge.

Bottle of Lanson (about £30), not just some fizzy £4 stuff. So £100 for a room, 2 park tickets and a bottle of champagne.

Yeah, I agree, especially when you're waiting to go in the park and it starts up around 15 minutes before the gates open :)  I can't help singing along to myself while I'm waiting if I'm there on my own :D
