Will the stream be featuring the 60 year anniversary programme or just Aquaruna?

Either way I'm rather excited for this! :)

It's prime-time mass entertainment taking place in Europe, you have to allow for some naffness.

Though I hear SW7 is being opened by Ikonika.

‎...if it wasn't such a cliché, I would say I was blown away. Stunned. Amazed. That was one of the few things I've ever seen that I can genuinely describe as breathtaking. It sets a new standard. For the third time, I have yet again fallen head over heels in love with De Efteling. ♥

It's interesting how all the DLP fans/fansites on Twitter are being a little condescending about it (e.g. "It feels more a bit like a technical demonstration for WET rather than taking you on any actual journey though...", "would be improved with a few water screens and projections. The fountains are big, but there's no visuals." etc.).

Anyone who's watched Disney Dreams (I haven't), how does it genuinely compare?

I watched the show, the whole thing, despite getting bored.

It was pretty, for a while. But in all honesty it was nothing special. It was just some fountains with a few lights, the belagio in vegas have been pulling a similar show for 20 years now.

Perhaps disneys world of colour has tainted my opinion, because that had projection mapping and water mapping - while this had neither. Which is a shame, when the technology is there, why not utilise it? To me the show looked so very dated.

Also I got annoyed at the story (or lack of), we were introduced to the princess, friend and golden ball with the frogs.... then.....

oh. no more story. it didnt happen.

Also I know its a fundamental thing, but where was the big finale? It just ended.

My analogy on TT chat was 'its like the pretty boy/girl you meet - excellent to look at for 5mins, after that you realise they have no substance and its time to move on'.

I honestly enjoyed Aquanura more than I expected to. No it didn't have projections or any other kind of special effects apart from sparklers, it was far more a 'sit back and relax' situation although the story at the start was disappointing in actually giving an explanation at the end. The themes from various attractions around Efteling added to the speciality of it, you could probably give that to any high investment pumped fountain anywhere and it would have the same effect.

And, whilst I also believe that Efteling needs more rides (in particular world class rollercoasters and Hartenhof) too next to a investment plan like Merlin etc, it's possibly one of the loveliest sights I've ever seen at Efteling even if not in person.

I agree with this point but at the same time I wouldn't say the Disney versions do it any better even with all the projection mapping. After all rehashing a load of Disney films is hardly "taking you on any actual journey". It's just a shame Efteling's show didn't end with someone rising through the water to do something to bring closure to the story.

Overall I really enjoyed it. It may not be the most mind blowing show but it did what I wanted from a classical dancing water fountain display on a grander scale.

An animatronic of the frog prince rising out of the water in this fashion would've really worked for what there is of the story :P And I'm being serious in that suggestion.

As a fountain show, Aquanura wins.

But Disney Dreams is much more than just a fountain show.

It's also a last minute hash-together and a demonstration of really clumsy projection mapping...?

It's not a last minute addition and how can you possibly call those projections clumsy? I fear you need to re-watch Disney Dreams Sam.

Well, my reflections on Aquanura :)

Personally, I really liked the 60th Anniversary show. But being a bit more objective about it, it was pretty boring. It must have been even more boring if you didn't speak Dutch. Why did I still like it? Having worked there myself, it was just completely Efteling-like. The CEO already said in the beginning. I'm a CEO, not a professional tv-like host, but we just do everything ourselves. It more or less spelled: this is OUR 60th Anniversary and we are not ruining that by giving in to what a viewer might think of it.

Then Aquanura itself. I thought it was fabulous with a few minor flaws, for instance the transitions between the music. It was more or less what I expected it to be. The transitions between the music did ruin it just a tidy bit in the first part of the show. However, when Dance Macabre starts, you just forget about it :) For the Dutch audience, the surprise of the night was that Mies Bouwman gave her voice to the introduction of Aquanura. She is, by far, the most important and immensely popular tv host The Netherlands has ever known. She is over eighty years old and usually not in for these type of things. Her English pronunciation ain't that good though, but I guess it's understandable. Overall, if you put it in context, for a park that for the first time made a serious effort to have such a show, I thought it was really good. I just wonder how it holds up in daylight.

Some comments on what has been said before:

I'm not too big of a fan of comparing shows when you haven't spend a day in the park beforehand. I think, especially for this one, which is all about the theme park experience, it's hard to judge its impact based on a video that you're watching at home.

I don't really care if there is a story or not. Aquanura is the story of your day at Efteling, it's about reliving memories. The displays symbolize the atmosphere of the rides they represent, although someones are better (Spookslot) than others (Villa Volta). The reason that the fountains are there is explained in the beginning and that's just it. I don't know if the 'golden ball' entertainment was just for tonight, I guess not, but probably the ball will be taken out of the goblet and that's just it then. There is no intention to re-enact the fairytale, it is just a variation on a small part of the fairytale.

I honestly don't understand why there should be any projections in the show. Projections of what? Of the rides, but why then? I mean, you just experienced them the same day. Furthermore, I think I would be annoyed by having a water screen going on and off the entire time, it takes the pace out of things. It will probably be just me, but I only truly enjoy the first part of WoC, until Aladdin and some parts afterwards as well (PoTC). Efteling doesn't even have world famous movies like Disney has, so I guess that only further proves my point that projections would not add to the experience. To me, it feels a bit like taking WoC and its characteristics and then mentioning everything it does and Aquanura does not. Such a comparison is then already flawed from the beginning.

I thought it was pretty.

The fountains and fire beautiful.

I think I prefer multiple different elements though, but this was a classic water display.

The Disney forums were always going to look down upon this, but ultimately, for Efteling, this is a great addition.

I worry for the show in daylight...
