Nemesis: Sub-Terra Discussion (**contains spoilers**)
According to a respected poster on TPM, I would say it's pretty much certain we're going to see some reasonable changes to the main show, too!
Wow what a cool monster animatronic, and the ride looks pretty decent too, gotta love the Japanese! Sorry, will let you get back on topic;)James6 wrote: Journey to The Centre of the earth, Tokyo Disneysea :P

Done well that would actually work, if it was very subtle
Crab on a stick anyone?
A TV might not work in the chamber but they could use one in the lift behind a window in the lift door (would have to be OLED) to look like different floors going passed.
But. On one hand it would be nice because even though its not realistic there is still something sort of creative/aesthetic about a nice square window framing a TV. Then again people see that, the are not just going to suspect they aren't moving, they'll know they aren't.
But anyways I guess its a important point about effects in themed rides - that if you can't achieve the decent effect thats ideal for the scene you should make it aesthetically pleasing, funny, OR metaphorical or something.
Have a look at my space themed dark ride concept:

I find it astonishing that they appear to be adding an element that is effectively a year round scare maze considering Thorpe have not managed more than one complete season with one before deciding the cost is too great to keep it running, and Alton are already unable to afford to open everything they have got! If that is what it is I'd be a fan of it though, as long as they can keep afford to it running all times and long term otherwise it just becomes something to make the parks operations look poor.
I've only had the misfortune of experiencing the very first incarnation of N:ST, so maybe my thoughts are out of date. If I were to make one change from then it would be an actual narration of the entire ride, guy does entry vid and as commander can keep talking to you via intercom throughout "take your seats for presentation", "oh my god, this ain't right", "oh no its out there, it's amongst us!". That sort of thing, to actually have the story make sense and be totally explicit in what's going on and what there is to be so scared of.
If they are going for a second drop I think the best/scariest way of doing it would be to blur the lines between the ride story and an actual ride malfunction. So when the ride gets to the top your are screamed at and gestured to leave by actors on the platform, but the restraints do not rise, you are trapped. Lights flashing, filling with smoke and still being told to get out it suddenly falls again. Has the potential to really freak people out.

I think is the main tone that needs to change. The ride would work much better, surely, if we were lead to believe that "everything was perfectly fine", and then, in fine theme park tradition, something goes terribly wrong...pluk wrote: I've only had the misfortune of experiencing the very first incarnation of N:ST, so maybe my thoughts are out of date. Chessington proved that trying to fit a scare maze into a shipping container is pointless.
This is not a scare maze.
This is merely a small part of a much wider attraction concept.

And Chessie wasn't ever going to have a true scare maze... But what they actually managed to do in that small amount of space was pretty decent... Dark definitely, which could well help Terra's finale...
Wait and see really...

Was at Alton last week and had my first go on Sub Terra. Now I wasn't expecting much, given the park's track record over recent years, but I'd deliberately stayed away from this topic so as to not to ruin any potential surprises that may lie in wait.
And the verdict? I loved it!
No seriously, I reckon this is the best new attraction they've added in a long time.
Now that I have read the topic though it seems that many were disappointed with it in its first few weeks due to operational issues but thankfully these seem to have been ironed out cos it was all working very well when I went on it. Dare I say it, but

I'm looking forward to an enriched experience on the whole - SCARE ME, DAMNIT!!
I've had a whiff of some other improvements, but how much of it was just a tease is to be seen... I'm thinking Wodan queueline, last chamber, but I'm not going to raise my hopes too much!!

Right, just gone past again. About 10 Merlin Magic makers I could spot inside the container and outside the ride area. Lots of tubing and all. From what I can make out, inside the container the mesh fencing splits the room in half vertically then splits it horizontally. Hard to explain without pictures but every time I try the phanalax operatives stood outside by the stag-thingy question me. So maybe to separate exit routes for the two lifts?

I'm not sure if there are any videos anywhere, but it was certainly a spectacle to see in the flesh!

Please don't put money on it... my source knows his 'shizzle', certainly, but as to whether it was a play on enthusiasts, I don't know .
