The Wing-Rider
A concept created by Intamin with Furious Baco at Portaventura
Later developed by B&M with Raptor at Gardaland
Now its about to be mastered with The Swarm, X-Flight and Wild Eagle
But what's to come for this new design? Will it be the new Invert, or will it prove unpopular and fade away?

What's the point of an inverted wingrider? It would be exactly the same but harder to support.
SW8 to be a 4D B&M. 4D is the best way for the concept to to forward.

I would love a wingrider like X2 in the uk with rotating seats and music!

Sorry my mistake. :P
I think B&M have just about perfected it and as I said 4D is the way to go with it.

It won't be the new invert, it's too big and costly, and it's unlikely there'll be a 'stock' design like there's the Batman and Superman models of the invert and flyer.
They will have a decent future, like the speed/mega coasters, there might even be a boom for them like the accelerator boom in the middle of the last decade, but they won't be so ubiquitous.

I think Blaze has a point, especially around cost. The biggest thing holding this design back at the moment is the economic climate which is affecting much of the world (and the areas that seem to be avoiding it, ie. China, appear to be building their own coasters). As a result, parks won't have the finance to spend so much on ride hardware, certainly not en mass anyway. I think had the invert just been created, it would suffer a similar fate.
15 years ago, an operator like Six Flags would've been all over this. X-Flight would've had clones pop up at another 2 or 3 of their parks, but this just isn't as feasible right now.
I can still see this design being popular with a lot of the world's major operators though. It almost seems tailor made for Busch, for example.

It won't become an absolute standard, like the B&M invert or hyper-coaster.
But I don't think it'll be a rarity like the flying coaster or the dive machine either.
I think it'll all depend on if they make a 4D version. X2 is by far and away the most insane and forceful ride I've ever been on.

I think every B&M is taken on as a "big project"...

As someone who actually likes Furius Baco, I'd like to see another ride like that but with a better layout after the launch, I've been saying I'd like to see that done at PB ever since I went on Baco tbh!

I think there's a park in China (or somewhere in Asia) that might be doing just that. I remember seeing the concept art which had a very Intamin looking Wingrider which looked like it would be launched. Not sure what's happened with that project as I can’t remember where it is but it's probably still in the works.Scott wrote: As someone who actually likes Furius Baco, I'd like to see another ride like that but with a better layout after the launch, I've been saying I'd like to see that done at PB ever since I went on Baco tbh!

I wonder if anyone will design a smaller, cheaper wing rider model with only one person hanging over the side (2 per row). Vekoma could make a small off-the-shelf model and sell that? A smaller model would be a bit more agile and the back rows probably wouldn't be as susceptible to shaking as much, so layout could be different.
Edit: I threw this together in Photoshop...

They don't look too dissimilar to the new Intamin trains that will be used on Skyrush at Hershey Park. Although they will be 4 across, there will be 2 standard floored seats and 2 floorless, winged seats per row.

Haha! World's first single's coaster? :PTB2 wrote: Just seems a bit lonely, sitting out there by yourself
I think it could offer a more open experience to the other kinds of winged coasters. Perhaps it'd be better on smaller track so you're closer to some company? :P
