'Secret Weapon' 'From Switzerland'

It certainly points to SW7. It could be a retheme, I hope it is, but this kind of marketing is a bit much for a simple retheme.

Well i think using the term weapon means to destroy so i guess and hope the flume does go. Whatever takes it place suggests its going to have a theme and lots of mention of water and sea does confirm it almost to be a water thrill ride which the park badly needs so things are looking interesting for 2012. Remember the 2011 budget will possibly included for the 2012 ride too which can make the park get a better product.

yes i love the thought that the flume will go, i have never enjoyed it like i do other log flumes.

i agree too that the 2011 budget was probably put into 2012 since Alton now have a lot to make up for with nothing new, not even a sideshow for 2011.

Really hope this is true. I love top scans and so do all my mates, they're great ride experiences and very popular! And let's be honest, how many years have we said Alton need a good flat alongside Ripsaw? They got rid of their other good one with Dynamo, Enterprise is ok. But a top scan would be big addition and at a fairly small cost I would guess. Good move if genuine.

I really think Alton need to capitalise on their thrill market over the next couple of years, I think enough's been invested in family attractions recently - since 2006 really!

PS I'm quite surprised that they haven't done an all-year round horror maze yet. It ticks so many boxes and would again be very popular - scare ride, something else in doors for crappy weather, something very different, something which can be changed/altered to suit different audiences & above all more entertainment.

I'm sure they must've looked into it (there were rumours they did in 2003). I personally think this will happen, one day...

I know people go on about how flat rides offer little but cheap thrills and a family park like Alton Towers should avoid having a lot of them - but lets face it, despite the lack of large development room the park still has many small places which might as well be utilized for flat rides. Of course, many of these were home to flat rides previously.

There's room for perhaps two in the Dark Forest, one on the old Dynamo site, one in the woodlands around Gloomy Wood and maybe even in Fountain Square as well.

I personally think that a family flat ride should go on the old Beastie site to soak up crowds from Spinball and then a new children's coaster should be build where the Dung Heap is now.

I'm pretty certain we will see a kiddies coaster next year.

Other options Towers are looking at is a Mack Youngstar with a heavy theme based upon a kids version of Nemeisis of some sort (i fail to see how this will work but hey).

Take of it what you will... A top scan is the most probable option at the moment.
Think outside the box. Alton aren't about to install some generic flat ride.

There's a possibility of a flat in forbidden valley, a possible new attraction in X-Sector along with a tidy up of the whole area and possibly a change in some of the theming and also possibly a retheme of the Flume or a complete new replacement of it. If we got all that next year I think I may wee myself! :P Lol, I'm greedy!

Of course the Flume may just be removed to make way for SW7 as that's another possibility but I still have hope that SW7 will be going on the car park beside Air.

^To be honest though, considering this year, I think the park NEEDS to put some good level of investment on a few rides...

One brand new ride, a rethemed ride and maybe one or two things added in plus a push of SW7 would be perfect... Especially if other rumours come true...

Don't forget a new kiddie coaster is urgently needed...

I don't know how, but I'd completely forgotten that!! The park has no children's coaster! With that in mind, a 2012 flume replacement or BH tent ride would surely be the wrong move (although I'd obviously prefer it). Unless they can do both - it's not like kiddie coasters are overly expensive.

Kiddie Coaster on the old Dynamo site? Slightly tongue in cheek - would be a poor location for one.

Well, the Beastie did reside there in the 90s didn't it?

If it's going to be anywhere it will be on the Dung Heap field or old Beastie site I think.

There seems to be a lot of possible options:

Dark Forest:

At the moment, there are two coasters and no support rides. One flat ride would go greatly appreciated and would help the flow of the coaster queues. The new ride said to be going to the Harry Potter land, is this (below) and it would do very well at Alton Towers.

Forbidden Valley:

I would like to see the Blade get moved to Mutiny Bay because it's a pirate ship and a pirate ship belongs in a pirate-themed area. I can see a Gyroswing being installed where Blade used to be. I can also see a flat ride being installed on the former Dynamo site.

X Sector:

The BH Tent has been unoccupied for years and an indoor flat or a small-medium coaster such as a Gerstlauer would be very good. Also, Enterprise and Submission has been at Alton for years and I can't honestly see anything replace Enterprise or Submission. I like Enterprise because it's a classic and it fits into the theme of X Sector. Submission, I can see going to Forbidden Valley.

Katanga Canyon:

They have a rapids ride and a powered coaster and there hasn't been any investment for a long time. I would like to see a family-thrilling flat ride such as a topple tower, which would be themed well and would appeal to both markets.

Gloomy Wood:

This area is a confusion for me. There's only one ride and I can't see AT doing anything to this area until they install something big in there. They have Duel, which is awsome but, I would like to see an indoor coaster in this area.

I must have missed "Harry Potter and the Journey into Space". That thing is far too tall for Alton, and the capacity would be dire unless they got two.
Forbidden Valley:

The entire point of moving the Blade would be as the land is being considered for SW7, so they wouldn't use it for another flat ride. Also a gyro swing would break the height restriction and it wouldn't fit in the plot. :)

They wouldn't install anything more major than a kiddie coaster the year before SW7. Why would they move Submission? It's complete crap and hardly popular. What benefit would there be moving it to Valley if you're going to keep Enterprise?

I can't see where a Topple Tower would fit. Also other parks have had massive technical problems with theirs, and they don't get good reviews. Alton wouldn't buy one.

No space.

Sorry, but it won't be any of the above. :P

Blade isn't in the area considered for SW7, that's behind Air and, if rumours are to be beleived, behind Ripsaw. I've heard nothing of the trench. :?

Moving Blade to Mutiny Bay would be a)clichéd and dull, and b)ruin the shinny new ride by placing an old, battered swinging ship next door.

My 2012 (and possibly onwards) new rides scenario
Warning: May be outrageously ott! :P

Dark Forest:
I'd quite like a dark flat ride here. I had a strange idea the other day but what if there could be some abandoned looking building further down that clearing of trees above the entrance to Th13teen and the big helix/corner bits to Rita. The queue line starts where the benches are now where the Ug-Swinger used to be and they lead off into the trees. Inside the old building is either a Chance Rotor or a Round-Up (yeah I know they're both ancient but they look like good fun :P ) themed with various old pieces of furniture and a rusty chandelier hung from large wooden beams in the centre of the ceiling and candles around the outside for light. You walk up the steps around the outside of the building and enter through a warped wooden doorway and stand around the sides of the dimly lit room. As the ride starts an eerie voice tells you about the wraiths that haunt this old property. Then, one by one, the candles go out and the room begins to spin faster and faster. The chandelier rocks backwards and forwards and its lights flicker whilst the furniture in the room begins to move around as though they're about to fly into the riders (animatronics). As the wraiths leave the spinning room comes to a halt and you exit through an underground passage way back out into the Dark Forest. It could be called "Poltergeist Cabin" or something? I know Alton did have Gravitron many years ago but this is just an idea of mine. I've no idea if rides like these are any good either. :P

Katanga Canyon:
People are also going on about moving the Blade. Well if they do then why not move it to Katanga Canyon instead? Here it would be less of a cliché than if it were moved to Mutiny Bay and it would liven the place up a bit as not much has been spent her for a long time. Also, the Blade is a family ride so it would kind of make sense to move it to a part of the park where families are more inclined to go as Forbidden Valley can be intimidating for some younger guests. It could go over the Lake and easily be fitted with some adventure theming to help it fit in. For a name maybe something like "Katanga Crusader"? I don't think this would happen in 2012 but maybe for 2013 in time for SW7 if need be?

Forbidden Valley:
If the Blade now lives in Katanga Canyon then we need a new flat ride for Forbidden Valley. Here there could be either a Mondial Inferno or Diablo themed accordingly with Forbiden Valley. I'm not sure if these would exceed the height limit as I've never seen one but they have good reviews and a similar capacity to Blades.

X-Sector:
Black Hole replacement - a Mack E-Motion coaster. I've mentioned this idea before but these rides are well priced, compact and offer a great thrilling experience. The theme could be some kind of anti-gravity machine that you have been invited to watch it being tested but a malfunction causes everything inside the rides protective facility to be thrown around wildly. There can be lots of near misses with other weapons and vehicles, etc... The outside of the tent can covered by new brickwork and some turrets and radar dishes added for a secret government testing facility feel but areas of the building have crumbled to reveal parts of the tent which is all due to the machine housed inside. It could simply be called "SW" ( ).

Mutiny Bay:
The retheme to the Flume for next year and then when the time does eventually come for us to say goodbye to it then a brand spanking new Intamin Super Splash with a similar theme but better drops etc... These can have a massive 1800 riders per hour and can be constructed around the limitations this area has.

Adventure Land:
As for a new kiddie coaster they could have a Mack YoungStar as others have suggested or maybe a Zierer Force Coaster as these are cheaper and aren't as intimidating as the YoungStar. There are others but these are just two possibilities. As for a theme they could go for a Mario theme (Yoshi especially :D ) and rename the area to Nintendo/Sega Land or maybe even Pixeltopia (too cheesey? ) or something along the lines of gaming, etc... I know you guys aren't into IP's but with Sonic Spinball next to where this new ride should try and fit in with it so a modern gaming theme might be a good idea, especially considering how popular computer games are.

Apologies for my pointless oversized post!
