Rita - Shorter Straps HELP!

General discussion regarding the UK's No.1 Theme Park. Talk about anything and everything Alton Towers here.
AstroDan

It appears that some of the straps which you buckle up on Rita have been changed, and the new ones are REALLY short. So short in fact, that I was pinned in today when I have been riding Rita for many years with no problem - in fact on other seats I had loads of room.

I am unsure if it's a mistake but they are going to have lots of unhappy guests. I would describe myself as average/stocky but certainly nothing out of the ordinary.

It's really not good...!

Oh no! I can only just about get in to Rita as it is. I went on Desert Race at Heide park with no problem at all.

Does anyone know why they have been changed?! :(

"Hmm, we've not spent any money on Rita in a while, and it's the least comfortable of all our big coasters, so any ideas what we can do with it?"
"Make it less comfortable?"
"Promotion!"

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, basically.

I wonder whose bright idea this was?

My guess from knowing how that places works, someone probably ordered the wrong size, and instead of sending them back and getting the correct ones, they used the usual view of: "Meh! That'll do"

"That'll do!" seems to be their new motto!

To be honest, I expect this to be an honest mistake, hopefully they can put it right!

Hasn't the same thing happened once before on RITA, with the straps being too short? IT seemingly rings a bell anyway.

i went in april and i can just fit on. it took 4 people to try and get me to clip in. i was in so much pain it was un real. They locked me in then just ran off. At the end of the ride i could not breath right and i was in pain. Like what Astro Dan say. lets hope they do fix it

My guess is that they've ordered the wrong parts but have had to put the shorter straps on the ride as a temporary measure until the right parts are ordered and delivered.

I can't see how they would change the straps as a permanent thing as it just seems quite odd to be honest. Unless Intamin have told them to do it for some reason.

I thought the park was family friendly? Catering for all types/sizes of person? Doesn't seem too fair to be honest if they're shortening the straps.

Let's just hope it is a mistake and not deliberate.

Oh great, there goes my chances of getting back on Rita comfortably then!

Suppose that's another 20lb I'll have to add to my weight loss now :(

A recent meeting in the parks HQ:

"rita is costing a fortune to run everyday. What can we do to cut costs?"

"errrrm stop letting bigger people on to make the trains not as heavy?"

"how will we do that?"

"shorter straps!"

"great, get it done! back to counting our profits!"

It's a bad move, but the people saying the park did this to seemingly spite us is just stupid... I mean why would Merlin of all businesses waste money on that?

Went on Rita yesterday and i thought the straps were smaller. My shoulders were crushed too - was so uncomfortable! When I went last year they were no where near as tight!
