With less than 3 months to go to the start of the main season at the end of March, we're still very much in the dark over any developments for 2011 at Alton Towers Theme Park.
Here's the lowdown on fact and rumour so far:
- The Shrek 4D project was cancelled due to disagreements between Dreamworks and Alton Towers.
- There are rumours that the Nickelodeon Outta Control building may find itself used again for 2011.
- Kiddie coaster, The Beastie, has apparantly been given a reprieve and will not be removed as expected.
Please use this thread for all discussion regarding 2011 developments - hopefully, Alton Towers will let us know soon what's happening or, could this be the first year ever where Alton Towers add absolutely nothing to the theme park?

I'm thinking the same. The last thing we want now is another Dung heap/Haunted Hallow type attraction.
I think Alton can milk Th13teen for another year if they have to and while it would be great to see a new attraction, it would also be great if we could see some of the minor details fixed.
I wouldn't count out something opening mid-season in the old Nick building but again, it must be done properly.

Is 2012 a thrill year, then in 2013 followed by SW7?

2012 is presumed to be the year that something will be installed in the Black Hole tent, probably a family-thrill ride. Then either 2013 or 2014 will be SW7.

It has been said before, but to be honest I think most people would just want to see a good clean up of the park and a lick of paint here and there, instead of a new attraction, I mean even if X-Sector doesn't get a proper face lift for a few years, just giving it a mild spruce now wouldn't hurt it, I mean if Enterprise gains anymore rust it wouldn't look out of place in FV.
Fixing things like fences, painting the fences in the Air and Th13teen queue lines, I mean graffiti overwhelms the fences on the Th13teen lines, and the Air one is peeling. Fixing bins and adding more, clearing out those wasp catchers, and general maintenance, fixing lights, and ride animatronics, in Duel, and other rides where stuff is broken, pain restraints again like on Oblivion last year, but do them all!
Make the park look beautiful doesn't cost that much and makes everywhere look pleasant, and when the chav's call they don't think they are still at home! I hate to see the place in such a state to be honest.
To be honest, can we expect much for the Nick Outta Control building apart from a very expensive play area, it does look like another :censored: heap to be honest, I don't think 2011 will be too much to rave about. Glad for the Beastie though, it deserves to stay, it has been loyal to the park and when it does hop its clogs it should have a plinth in the entrance area, or at least put the train on display. :P
I am not hyped up about this year, and it doesn't really bother me at all, I think 2012 is when we get back into the good stuff, but then again I didn't expect much, I mean AT must be scrounging for pennies after the amount of money they spent on Th13teen and the Dark Florist area

It does sadden me that AT has to "scrounge" for pennies after what was a phenomenal season in 2010.

Maybe I was a little over the top, but it does look like in some areas of the park that there is no money there.

Well, they will go round doing each part individually. They've already done Merry England, Cred Street and Ug Land, so who knows what's going to be next. THey could have done all of them and had no new attractions, but I'd rather them do one at a time. This year won't have a revamped area, but next year it seems X-Sector will get TLC, and then after that, wherever SW7 goes will get attention, and the kids areas will get attention at some point aswell.
Sounds like whatever 2011 will bring will be announced next week

http://www.altontowers.com/short-breaks/despicable-me/ Does that mean there going to be a Cinema Next Season?
They turn a conference room into a cinema. They have done it for a few closed seasons now, as part of their weekend entertainment. Nothing to do with the park.

Is it bad I have honestly never ever heard of that film?!
Yes. Apperently it's very good as far as Dreamworks goes.
Wont have anything to do with the new attraction, though.

I'm sure it was Dreamworks?
Oh well, it doesn't matter, it won't have anything to do with the new attraction.
not that it has anything to do with the topic but the film is a Universal Studios film and not a dream works film. It was universal first feature length computer animated film.
It was Dreamworks, with Distribution occasionally by Paramount.

It was actually a PDI/DreamWorks production. Who created all the Shrek movies.
PDI/DreamWorks own all the related rights associated with Shrek 4D, Universal is nothing more than a medium to show the film.
All negotiations and discussions were between AT and PDI/DreamWorks. Universal had no involvement.
