If you put that in the Blackhole tent you will just make X-Sector even worse (if that's possible). I literally beg that they do not put it in the Blackhole Tent [-o< , because then X-Sector will then also become a mixed themed land along with Adventure Land.

I think you've overestimated the problems with X_sector All that's wrong with it is it's tired and dirty, it just needs a clean and the cracks filled in, and a new ride to liven it up.

There was an open door at the front of the towers near the smoking area. Directly in the Gap of the door was what looked like a large unpainted Shrek head with the word Shrek on it.
This was seen on the main footpath and not in any out of bounds area. I'm sure Russell will upload the pic when he is back

Personally i think it is a great idea . So long as it goes in the old ice show structure. It would be utter stupidity to place shrek in X-sector and also would not fit in CCL. as already stated the ride will be anouther much needed indoor family ride.
I also think it would fit in well in story book land because shrek is about a fairytale so matches perfectly.

Maybe they will build this in the Cloud Cuckoo Land theatre. The show in there is very poor at the moment. The building already there and it wont take long to put the seats in and the effects.

To be honest, it's a good idea, but I thought Alton Towers was reknown for its originalty in it's thrill and family rides. Copying another theme-park surely isnt the way to go? But if it does go ahead, not in the Black Hole tent please, massive clash of theme's. Ice-tent for me please.
Meh, they jumped on the Accelerator and Spinning coaster bandwagons, and Shrek will only be around a few years, then it will be a new IP/original story. I'd prefer an original story, using the CCL characters and at Halloween using those characters, possibly a new one at Christmas if they would be willin gto open it up during the winter, but an IP is easier to market and get interest, and they could have done worse. Shrek has proven to be popular, both the 4D ride and the IP itself, so if it does well for Alton, I'm willing to look past it.
Nothing wrong with a 4D cinema (not that I care about such things), but does it really have to be Shrek? Can't they come up with something original?

I would have thought the black hole tent would have been perfect for an IP based 4D ride, but surely, if it proved to be that tent, then something like a Dr Who 4D attraction would have been a better choice. If it proves to be Shrek, then you can bet a ham fisted bit of theming (with Nickworld at BPB in mind) will be imposed on whichever area ls 'lucky' enough to get the ogre...

John Wardley did say they here planing something for the Black Hole tent BUT he said it would be done in 2012, 2013 or 2014 :herrrm:
I said last year we should watch the dreamworks partnership closely! (while the hotel events were on-going).
To be honest I like the idea, the tents have been empty for far too long and while I agree the Shrek franchise has finished 4D cinemas once installed can be used for loads of different films. So it's not like we'll be lumbered with Shrek forever.
Meh I'm excited!

I believe those panicking should stop and calm down, the Black Hole Tent is the least likely place they will put the attraction and it's being suggested something else will occupy BHT. To put Shrek there is silly and a non-existent plan, so there's no need to get so worked up about it. As Chris said, X-Sector is looking for a few changes in 2012.
It's much more likely they will use the space where the ice tent is now because Shrek fits the fairy tale theme quite evidently, whilst the old Nickleodeon: Outta Control building I'm not so sure over.

Hmm...
Well, having riden the one in Florida i was pleasently surprised. IF Alton put as much effort into the Animatronics at the entrance to the theatre (loading bay) and not let them fall into a state of disreapair i will congratulate the towers.
The most probable place and one that might fit in the horrible money making ogre, is the Ice Tent. Reluctantly though, the tent has so much potential! Decent indoor coaster anyone? Themed around Mr Old Mcdonald himself...
Ah well, good cheap(ish) sudden investment, i suppose Alton need something to market this year.
Isn't Old Mcdonald Farmyard set for a re theme anyways? Shrek area anyone?

Secret submission lover.
Who doesn't love that comfy piece of chance?
I am a brass band nerd, deal with it!

I'm not sure if Alton would go as far as the entrance lobby aspect because a) im not sure theres that much space and b) they certainly wont be able to keep the anamatronics maintained.
I have just had an AWFUL AWFUL thought tho, does anyone remember a fuss when Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was rumoured? And we all know how crap that turned out to be.

Well the horse has bolted...
Sounds cool to me. Towers need more indoor attractions where guests can relax in comfort and warmth. In terms of physical stress on your body, it's probably the most intensive park in the world! I bet the average guest walks around the park for miles.

Yeah but that's because it replaced something a lot better. Since the tent's been dead for years, even if this is rubbish it's still a gain for the park.

Sounds great to me ! Just 'cause the franchise has ended doesn't mean that the characters will instantly die in popularity - I think it's a good choice of IP (with the assumption that there must be one, which is debatable...).
Also, don't forget: a 4D theatre is a 4D theatre. Shrek could last a few years, and then be replaced with another, potentially original show! Fantastic addition as far as I'm concerned.
And no people, it's really not going to be in the Black Hole tent .
I think it is very unlikely that a 4D attraction would be located in a leaky temporary structure. Most 4D technology is permanently fixed and effectively wired and designed into buildings. The old ice show tent also has an interior that is not suited to film viewing as there are several metal columns holding up the roof.
You've clearly never been to Legoland - it's perfectly possible to have a permanent 4D theatre in a tent-like structure. All you need is some truss and black drapes
If this is the only addition for 2011, then I'll be pretty disappointed. Was definitely expecting a Dark Forest flat.
Why? The park made it very clear that next year was going to be completely family-oriented.

plus it's not exactly a dead franchise as they are making a shrek musical next year.
Just to add something, it's not necessarily a 4D theatre any other ideas it could be?

I heard rumors a while back that there was going to be a Shrek themed land...
...Isn't there an area between Old MacDonalds Farm and Adventure Land that's been neglected over the years that houses the Ice Tent and has already has a theme to match that can easily be adapted?
If the 4D attraction does go ahead, they can't just place it inside a tent. I expect they'll have to build a new structure similar to Hex.
Could this also be a goodbye to the Bookworm and Nutty Squirrel as we know them?
