Alton Towers have now released details of their February Half Term event, which will run from the 13th to 21st February next year. The following attractions will be available during the week:
• Sharkbait Reef by SEA LIFE
• Air
• Blade
• Oblivion
• Spinball Whizzer
• Runaway Mine Train
• Duel
• Heave Ho
• Marauder’s Mayhem
• Wobble World
• Twirling Toadstool
• Gallopers Carousel
• Frog Hopper
• Peugeot Driving School
• Doodle Doo Derby
• Dung Heap
• River Bank Eye Spy
• Berry Bish Bash
• Old MacDonald’s Tractor Ride
• Singing Barn
• Squirrel Nutty Ride
• Hex
• Giant Rabbits
• Miniature Donkeys
I'd say that's a pretty good ride line up they've got, it would have been nice if Nemesis was open instead of Air, but that's not the end of the world. What I find most interesting is that Hex and Cloud Cuckoo Land will be open, which is going to give some pretty decent views of whats going on over at the SW6 construction site.
A few more details of the event can be found in the winter brochure, although opening times and prices have yet to be announced.

Its very realistic that a lot of the work will be done by February Half term so they will just put some fences up. There should also hopefully be some work going on at the Cloud Cuckoo Land Sky Ride Station.
Good Line up this year. Sharkbait Reef and the Cloud Cuckoo Land refurb really add to the park's line-up during these kind of events.

What a line-up! It gets bigger every year. But again... No Nemesis! Such a shame. However, I am very impressed.

Yeah but Nemesis is always prone to having many problems over the closed season and its likely it will need its footings all re-doing. So I can understand why its closed.

Wow thats brilliant .
Silly Question will all of those rides and attractions be open all week or do they open different ones each day ?
Wonder if the sky ride will be open, that would give fab views of SW6

All rides will be open every day, that's what it was like this year anyway and there's no reason why that should change.
As for the Skyride, that definitely won't be open, I think that Towers are hoping to have it open again for the start of the 2010 main season, that is as long as they have no problems with SW6.

This event seems good, looks like they are making real progress to having shorter and shorter closed seasons.
With the addition of the half term openings and the old adrenaline week event, can anyone work out why Alton Towers manages to pull off reduced ride availability events, whereas at Thorpe they can't. It seems that the Thrill Chill event is cancelled next year due to the damage it was giving the parks reputation. Does anyone know if Alton get similar numbers of complaints to Thorpe about the reduced ride avialability during these events?

I'll be the first to say it...
Could 2009 be the last year the mighty Nemesis causes her carnage in the valley?
*sits back and watches the panic*
EDIT: to make it clear, the above was meant as a light-hearted joke. :P

As Rob says She wasn't open this year.
Thing is though I understand in a way, Once she's put to sleep-Like any women- you wanna try waking them up early. She takes a month-like any women- to get ready. She has to make sure she has all new clothes, make-up and a range of harness's and greasy oils to lather herself with. So I understand in a way.

I'd like to make it clear Nemesis isn't going anywhere - it was a joke! :P
I think there's a few interesting choices of rides open - I don't see why they don't go the full way and open the whole park? Surely it'd only be a few more rides and they could advertise the whole park as open?
Efteling seem to close all their outdoor rides for Winter Efteling, so bravo Alton!

Well, it was a pretty bad joke really.
They will never open the whole park for half term for a few reasons, water rides won't open as it will be too cold, I know I wouldn't want to go on the Flume or Battle Galleons in the middle of February. Then you have other rides like Nemesis which needs quite a lot of work done, this year they did a lot of work on the footers for the ride, hence it was closed. And if the whole park was open, it would mean that they would be charging full prices, and they just wouldn't get enough people going at £37 or whatever it is now in February to make it worthwhile. People will go when it costs say £15, as that's very good value for a day at Towers when a good amount of rides open, but they won't pay £37 to be freezing cold all day!

Nemesis should have no problem opening in February. Black Mamba, at Phantasialand, operates for their Winter event in December and early January. Perhaps Alton, as stated by someone above, just want to do some extra work on the ride.
Pity really, as Nemesis & Rita are my two favourite AT coasters and neither are open again!

Very unlike Towers this, but they have sorted out the online ticketing so you can buy Feb half-term tickets already! They are £14.40 with the £2.50 booking fee on top of that. So that makes it £16.90! No idea how much postage costs but add that on top if you want it posted!
