I've been on park now two days. The first day was lovely weather all day, however, when the park shut and guests had gone, 4 storms hitdirectly overhead. Torrential downpours had flooded the main carparks, washed away sections of pathways all around X-Sector and Duel was apparently struck by lightning last night too forcing the closure today. Not confirmed if it has done any damage or just blew electrics but I'll keep you posted and try and post pics of the areas ASAP. but in the meantime, park is rammed solid today, considering it's a Tuesday with FT lines about 20 minutes long! Lol!

Wow. Thanks mickptaylor, that is an amazing photo. It looks like it was a stormy evening near Alton Towers then. That photo is rather intimmidating really and a bit spooky.

Cheers for all the comments on the photo. I stood in the rain for about 20 minutes and took over 100+ photos before I caught one with lightning......

Lol....I can assure you it is not. I use a darkening filter in order to make the clouds stand out more but trust me, its a genuine photo taken from the Travelodge at Ashbourne. I have the wet clothes to prove it

I stayed in the hotel on Monday night, we arrive at 6 ish and the weather was lovley. Around 6.30 it started to rain really hard, within 20 mins the water started to come into the hotel. Staff tried to block the water with a board and towels.
Soon after there where two really loud bangs when the lighning struck, the staff were running around, we had no idea what had happend. We couldn't eat untill really late, as they had to turn off the gas into the kitchens, incase the lightning struck the building.
The next day Duel, Hex, and the Flume where all close for most of the day, and they storm had damaged the path in x sector.

The Flume reopened later on yesterday, I think Hex did too, but not until the last hour. Duel didn't open all day though.

I was driving through Cannock towards Stafford and I can say I have never in my life seen a storm as violent as the one on Monday afternoon.
