Fuji Q Highland Monday 25th October
Having already spent a fantastic two and a half weeks travelling around Japan, seeing incredible places such as Tokyo, Yokohama and Hiroshima; we headed over to Fuji Q Highland with the hope of it being quiet...
The three big coasters are Fujiyama, Dodonpa and Eejanaika, all of which you can see upon entering the park...
The place did seem very quiet considering we got there about 10:45 in the morning, we later found out this was probably because everybody was in the queues, with Fujiyama's at 2 hours already!
Fujiyama is Japanese for 'King of Coasters', we jokingly quipped that maybe 'King of Queues' would be more apt, unaware that this was just the start of things to come...
Next up was Eejanaika with queues of 2 and a half hours!
The first drop on this thing is incredible, after that it becomes a bit disorientating. It's also knowhere near as rough as people make out.
So by this point we has spent near enough 5 hours in the park and got on 2 rides, on what was supposed to be a quiet day! The time was now 3pm So we decided to get something to eat and then make out way over to Dodonpa...
As we were now rushing to queue for Dodonpa I failed to get any decent photos of it, you can just about see it behind the stupid spinny flying thing that was the 'New For 2010' attraction. The queue for Dodonpa was 2 hours #-o
People in this country really really really like to shop
All in all thankful to see the back of the place, we spent about £50 each to get there and get in and it just wasn't worth it. The park's general appearance makes Drayton Manor Park look like Disneyland, with general junk lying about the park and absolutely no theming whatsoever on any of the three big coasters. I also don't feel that only being able to get on 3 rides on a quiet day is anywhere near acceptable, how a park which has obviously had an incredible amount of investment over the years is allowed to be run so poorly is astounding...
+ Positives +
• The three big coasters are brilliant, and unique; Dodonpa being the stand out attraction for me.
• Situated right next to Mt Fuji
- Negatives -
• The queues! (At least I now know what the 'Q' in Fuji Q Highland stands for though )
• Terrible throughput on all the attractions.
• No theming on any of the coasters
• The park looks like a dump

Ouch, I see Fuji-Q really lives up to its poor reputation of having ridiculous queues. Were the queues just full or was it down to diabolical throughput/operations?
It's such a shame that you had a pretty poor day seeing as the place looks like it has some awesome and unique coasters but from those pictures it's pretty obvious the place looks pretty run-down.
Great trip report to read from somewhere we don't usually hear a lot about! Did you happen to visit any other parks whilst you were in Japan, Chris?

Both! Dodonpa was always going to have pretty lousy throughput with a maximum of 8 people on each train, Eejanaika had 1 train being despatched every 5-10mins despite having massive queues as did Fujiyama...Were the queues just full or was it down to diabolical throughput/operations?
The queues there are also by far the worst I have ever been in, nothing to keep you occupied apart from some really annoying music in the Dodonpa queue which was on a loop every 20 seconds...

I'm surprised you didn't rave about Eejanaika. It's exactly the same as X2 right? It's pretty much my No.2 coaster in the world, I really think the first drop if you're in the front row is the most intense and best moment I've ever had on a coaster. Imagine Oblivion's drop but 40ft higher, completely vertical, and face-down in the flying position and you're halfway there.
It just shows how much we should cherish some of our parks who do have good operations. Although there are a few parks in Europe whose operations aren't quite as good as we could hope for, there are many who really do try hard to keep queues moving and guests happy at all times.
Your day sounds hideous, to be honest.
Is that that annoying music that goes
"Do-Don-PA! Do-Don-PA!" just over and over? I've seen a video of it.
That's the one lol. Luckily it was only played in the outside queueline, I don't think I could have put up with it for much longer than that!...
I will never ever complain about queues at Alton Towers again having visited this place!...

It was an incredible ride, as you say the first drop is amazing, but I think the fact that it was freezing cold and i'd just finished waiting in one of the worst queues i've ever experienced may have took the shine off it!I'm surprised you didn't rave about Eejanaika.
