As most of us know, nemesis will next year be celebrating it's 20th birthday. In my opinion, nemesis still looks great considering it's age. So I thought of this:
What will the smiler be like in 20 years? Will it wear as good as/ better than nemesis? Do you think it will still be open in 20 years?

I never thought of this, what I'm hoping is that Merlin keep all the elements working and keep it well maintained everywhere else, I also hope that it doesn't get rougher, although I can ignore it, the rest of the public feel as if it is unsafe if the ride is as bad as SAW, they are the only things I feel can go wrong, but I do think this topic is very good, and thank you for creating it :moj
I think with nemesis, the theme means when it's gotten old and worn it still looks good with the theme. However if the smiler does this it won't, because its a big shiny meta piece of work, it will need a lot of maintaining to look like what it does today.
Well, I seem to have a more optimistic view than most
I think it'll be trudging along at half capacity, but will still be regarded as an alright coaster. It'll be seen as good and a crowd pleaser but that it 'never quite got there' in terms of being the best.

It will probably just be similar as to what Rita is today.
Just sits in the background, never really given great attention, everyone knows it's there but they'd rather go on something else that they haven't been on already.
The Smiler is still a fantastic ride though. But will all rides be just as fantastic 20 years ahead?
It will most certainly have had its crown taken away by a longer, and better paced coaster.
The Hypnotiser and Innoculator wont have worked for around 10 years, but the Tickler and Giggler will still work to a fashion.
Structural damage would've led to extensive downtime, at one point it was down for around 5 months to be fixed.
The "Sterile" white station will have faded overtime, looking tacky and dingey. Of course the yellow air gates will be peeling away and show signs of poor lazy paint overs with no effort to sand off an even coat.
5 years on, new H&S rules actually condemn the ride due to its structural integrity and it is left SBNO for 5 years, until eventually the whole X-Sector is closed to the public for a few years.
Okay...I might've gotten a bit carried away there. At the end of the day, noone knows, and anything could happen.
For all we know Merlin might not even own the park, and a more maintenance savvy group could take over.
