Wizarding World of Harry Potter???

Got an idea of how the Alton Towers Resort may develop over the coming seasons? Discuss it here.

Universal Studios President Ron Meyer recently discussed an array of projects, films and otherwise, for the major studio, including the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resorts in Florida, and the possibility of other venues to host a Harry Potter theme park. Though Meyer's response was short and vague, it answered quite a bit about the future in expansions.

Asked if there were plans to build additional Harry Potter amusement parks built outside of Orlando, Meyer would only respond, “Yes.” The tight-lipped mogul couldn’t reveal further details.
i know its quite radical, but what are the odds of a Wizarding World coming to Alton Towers? im not a huge fan of IP's in a park like towers, but i think if the option of taking up something as big as Orlando's potter land (even if it was just the forbidden journey ride/castle walk through) i don't think it would be something to be missed.

if it was the only Wizarding World to be built in Europe i could imagine just how popular the park would become with overseas guests wanting to stay at the resort.

licensing would have to be overcome and agreements met. im sure it would just become something like what's happened with the marvel franchise and universal and disney.

I presume if they were to be built they would be built at the other Universal Studios Parks

its a shame, because it is likely it'll never happen in a million years, i just think it would be the most amazing addition to the park.

I agree with siralgenon, and to be frank, i wouldn't want one in Alton Towers, it wrecks the magic of going to Florida and it wouldn't fit in with Alton Towers
Keep Harry Potter world to the people who can live up too the harry potter fans expectations

Harry Potter should stay in America! I cant really see England with a Land of Harry Potter, Plus it would ruin the Magic what Alton holds, At some point Alton will more than Likely have an area which is just as Good as The Wizarding world of Harry Potter, But that is most likely a good couple of years away! :)

I don't think that it should be incorporated into AT.
But England is the most fitting place to build a full blown HP theme park as, well, HP is SET in England! It's so British... That part is so lost in the WWOHP.

Are you sure they're not referring to this?

Yeah let's put this one to bed right now.

It's not going to happen. When he said "yes", he could have been referring to any one of the thousands of theme parks across the globe. And probably one of the three other Universal parks. Why would they bother at Towers, with the hugely restrictive height, noise and planning issues as well as the tightness of Merlin?

Surely this is just a standard roller coaster that sonic sponsor lots of theme parks have very similar rides. i think a harry potter world is a very different thing to a ride that just has sponsorship.

I think this is potentially what he might have had in mind when he made the statement. Not sure how long they where planning for the Orlando HP but i think it went on for several years from the original idea to it actually happening. so even if they started making plans now it would be 5+ years and would the novelty or the idea of HP still be as strong and as popular come 2017 for example.

To put this in perspective. The cost of building Universals version is astronomical (in the realm of £200 million) - Alton Towers could put in 20 large scale B&M coasters with that budget.

You're talking about the company who is too cheap to allow free parking building one of the largest and most expensive theme park projects in the world! I'm sorry but it just isn't going to happen.

No. The majority of them are actually good and provide a story/narrative that relates to what the ride is about rather than a name tacked onto an unthemed pile of junk. See non Merlin* theme parks for further details.

*The exception to this rule however is Saw: The Ride and Saw: Alive. These have made a considerable effort to match the related franchise.

That's kind of an irrelevant point when Universal also charge for parking.

It'd never happen at Alton anyway, for a number of reasons. Universal have the deal in place with Warner, so I'd imagine they hold some kind of exclusivity over use of the HP brand in an entertainment park.

I also agree with others in that there *should* be a HP park in the UK, but given our planning laws it's fairly inconceivable. If land was cheaper and ability to build less restrictive, then it'd be interesting to see whether Universal would have considered taking on such a project themselves. They certainly have the finance and the clout, plus in terms of 'studio theme parks', they have no direct competition over here.

Ironically, given the weather over here, a studio park is probably better suited to our climate than Orlando's, but hey ho...

It's free/discounted to Annual passholders. Indeed they even offer valet parking to the higher pass level. That is however beside the point. :)

I wouldn't want to see any of the theme park companies in the UK touch the Harry Potter license. It commands a higher quality than any of them are prepared or able to give to it.
